Great Langdale is a valley in the Lake District National Park in the county of Cumbria, in the northwest of England. It is often simply referred to as Langdale, the "Great" distinguishing it from the neighbouring valley of Little Langdale.
Great Langdale is where you can find the Langdale Pikes. Scafell Pike, can be climbed by a route from Langdale although it is quite a hike. Langdale has spectacular views of many fells and tarns including Dungeon Ghyll Force waterfall, Harrison Stickle and the Pike O' Stickle. Langdale's highest fell is Bow Fell. Other notable Langdale fells are Crinkle Crags, at the head of the Oxendale valley, and Pike O'Blisco on the southern side of the valley.
For those not keen or unable to do high routes or if the weather is particularly inclement there are lovely lower level walks around Elterwater and Elterwater Tarn, Skelwith Bridge, Ambleside and Little Langdale and along the Great Langdale Valley to Mickleden.
There are a number of popular fell walking routes include Bowfell, Crinkle Crags, the Langdale Pikes and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike. There are also rock climbing spots on the valley floor, such as Raven Crag, Gimmer Crag and White Ghyll, providing some of the most spectacular rock routes in the UK.
