Location description from owner

The Lasithi Prefecture region

North East Crete is known as Lassithi and here there is something for everyone. There are clear blue seas and sandy coves for beach and water-sports enthusiasts. Mountains running through the centre of the Island provide relief and cooler temperatures with fabulous views and traditional mountain villages. The Minoans settled here and excavations can be found in many places with palaces in Malia and Zagros and some excellent exhibits in the Archeological Museums. The best known of the Minoan palaces is Knossos at Heraklion and the newly opened Archeological Museum in Heraklion is of a top international standard.

Elounda

Elounda is a very attractive small town which has grown up around a traditional fishing village. The picturesque harbour caters only for traditional boats and is at the centre of the town. There is also a sandy, public beach which provides safe swimming and watersports nearby. Elounda has very many bars, cafes and restaurants which cater for the family market. A few bars stay open until late with a disco. The hotel developments around the town are low rise and blend into the surroundings.
The Island of Spinalonga was made famous recently by Victoria Hislop's novel, 'The Island' and it was the last leper colony in Europe. Many of the buildings are now being restored and regular boat trips can be taken from Elounda or the neighbouring village of Plaka.

“Great villa with outstanding views”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2016

We fell in love with the villa from the moment we climbed down the steps from the car parking area. We never tired of the view which constantly changes. The location is also peaceful - all you can hear is birdsong & sheep! The villa itself is well equipped & comfortable containing all you need for a successful holiday. The kitchen & barbecue area make catering easy. If you wish to eat out there are many good restaurants in Elounda itself, 10 minute drive by car or a 25 minute walk in daylight. The pool area is a bonus and the family played & swam in it in April! If you are planning a holiday in Crete, Elounda and Villa Avrio make the perfect base for a wonderful holiday.

“Extremely comfortable , amazing view , wonderful island”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2015

Family holiday with parents, son and wife and son and fiancée. Extremely comfortable, all the beds were comfortable, air-conditioning and fans a welcome addition. Sitting room and dining room excellent and kitchen stocked with everything your required. Outside plenty of areas for sitting and lying in the shade or sun. with a beautiful infinity pool with amazing pools.

Owner's reply: Glad you enjoyed your holiday in September and that the weather was still warm and sunny

“Amazing honeymoon!”

Reviewed 29 Nov 2015

Avrio is one of the most magical and enchanting places we've ever had the pleasure of going to, and every time we come back we fall in love with it a little bit more. The Villa is beautifully tucked away into the hillside above Elounda, giving you complete privacy and the most incredible views over the bay. The local restaurants are incredible (The Hope is amazing value for money and also has views to die for), and the villa has absolutely everything you could need. One of our favourite places in the world, and we'd recommend it in a heart beat!

Owner's reply: So glad that you enjoyed your honeymoon in the villa and it gave you a chance to reflect on the wonderful moments of your wedding.

“Fabulous place”

Reviewed 20 Nov 2015

Gorgeous villa in a secluded spot, yet only 5 mins drive (or 20 min walk) from town. Elounda retains traditional charm, yet has many bars and restaurants to cater for all tastes, The villa is spacious and very comfortable, with all the mod cons - and wonderful views across the bay from the lovely garden and infinity pool! Thoroughly recommend this place - really terrific.

Owner's reply: Glad you enjoyed staying in our villa and hope you'll come again
