Location description from owner

The Rhineland-Palatinate region

The Mosel Valley has been associated with wine manufacturing from before the days of the Roman Empire. The wine village of Ellenz lies on the Moselweinstrasse roughly midway between Koblenz and Trier, which is Germany's oldest town. The beautiful and historic town Cochem is about 9 Kilometres away and offers all the charm and amenities that the Mosel has to offer. The valley enjoys the reputation of being one of the warmest destinations in Germany or indeed central Europe. Throughout the year there are many events the most important and in our opinion and the most fun are the winefests in July/August/September that take place in all the villages along the Mosel, With the wine harvesting taking place usually end September /early October There are many activities to do in the area why not take a leisurely boat trip and even have lunch on board. For those who prefer the more active pursuits why not hire a canoe, Walk the Bremmer Calmont (Europe's steepest vineyard) and many other trails or perhaps just hire a bicycle and cycle along the Mosel. The beautiful and historic town Cochem is about 9 Kilometres away and offers all the charm and amenities that the Mosel has to offer. “Excellent value for money”

Reviewed 29 Nov 2012

Beautiful location very quiet at this time of year. Be aware that everything shuts on Sunday no trading except for restaurants and cafe' If you don't speak German useful to have translator app on phone or German dictionary. Cochem very pretty easily accessible by bus if you want to have a drink out of the village Train travel also very reasonable we took a train to Kobenz for 20 euros return for 4 people Property had quite a few stairs not suitable for people with disabilities or very young children Apartment very clean and well equipped , warm with wood burning stove

“Fantastic”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2012

We had the most fantastic time. Mike and Maria were brilliant hosts. They were so helpful and knowlegeable about the area and were only too keen to share it with us. Nothing was too much trouble for them and as a result we had one of the best if not the best family holidays. The accomodation is immaculate and the location suberb. It is easy to travel around by bus and train and the Mosel River is on your doorstep. We hired bikes and canoes and visited a "Wine fest" at Mike and Maria's suggestion. We got an excellent flavout of German village life. Mike arranged a wine tasting which was one of th highlights of our trip. For children, the village swimming pool is fantastic and the walks through the vineyards and woods around the village are beautiful. This is a real "gem" which I cannot recommend highly enough. We travelled by Eurostar and German Railways from the UK which was amazingly efficient and relaxing.

“wanna go back”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2012

Mike and Maria are always on hand for local infomation. Apartment was imaculate and in a great location. The keller was great in the evenings to socialise with the other guests, Mike and Maria have a good knowledge of the local wines and they are only to pleased for you to taste them in the Keller. At the end of our week the wines we liked the best Mike new the grower and got our cases of wine at trade price for us. We are looking forward to our next trip to the Riesling apartment.

“A truly charming property in a beautiful area run by people who really want you to enjoy your stay.”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2011

The location of this magnificent house in the streets of Ellenz really make you feel part of the place. It was quiet and peaceful, the property fascinating and the owners (who are English so very easy communicatio) made every effort to make us feel at home and give every help they could have done. The attic room we rented for a week was delightful with the ancient beams and artefacts surrounding you. We understand it is being refurbished later in the year which will add further to it. There are endless places to visit in the area and Mike & Maria can advise on the 'must see' ones. Our week seemed so brief, so we only scratched the surface but this was an excellent base, run by great people who really care about what they do. The private wine cellar for evening drinks is atmospheric and interesting and again there are plans to futher improve it. Highly recommended.
