Location description from owner

The Region of Murcia region

The Murcia or Costa Calida (Warm Coast with more than 320 days of sunshine on average) region is one of the lesser known holiday regions of Spain (among the British), but the region is very popular with the Spanish people. The area is however becoming much more popular with its ease of access and the increasing number of people who prefer to sort their own holidays out. The climate here is excellent with temperatures in June - Sept averaging more than 21degC and even in winter the average never dips below 10 degC. In fact in the height of summer the temperature can reach higher than 30degC.El Valle Golf resort is perfectly situated for exploring this varied region with its mile upon mile of coastline punctuated by sandy beaches, lively ports and fishing villlages. The Mar Menor provides shallow calm waters that are perfect for families, not forgeting the spas and thallassotherapy centres of the area. The coastline also provides some superb watersports, for example, jetskiing, sailing, windsurfing and diving activities (eg Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas Marine Reserve is of special interest for divers). Or you can discover some of the real Spain and delve back into the history and culture, be it prehistoric (Cave Paintings in the North West), Roman (Cartagena Port of Cultures) or 16th century potteries in Totana. You can also explore the architecture of the area by wandering through the medieval quarter of the Holy City of Caravaca de la Cruz or the varied period architecture of Murcia Cathedral (it did take nearly 400 years to build!).If walking in cities is not your thing then there are numerous walks in National Parks and also the River Segura to explore. There is also Terra Natura Water Park and Zoo for the young and not so young nearby at Murcia (10 mins away).Or how about the Wine Route - The Jumilla vineyards in the North west of the region produce some exquisite wines. Having covered wine the next speciality of the region is food - especially the seafood, sweets and pastries and not forgetting Tapas, especially in Murcia city where going out for tapas is a real tradition. Finally the golf courses - this area is fast becoming known as a mecca for Golf - there are many superb golf courses in the region - 50 scheduled to be open by 2010. As well as the Polaris courses, for example there is the nearby Mosa Trajectum and slightly further afield the famous La Manga courses.Shopping - Both Murcia and Cartagena are major cities with all the shops that you could possibly want, and both have easily accessible out of town shopping centres with Hypermarkets as well as designer shops and Casinos if you are feeling lucky. There is also a large shopping centre at San Javier. In summary there is something for everyone in the Region of Murcia.

El Valle Golf Resort

El Valle Golf Resort is the most prestigious of the Polaris World Resorts with a very low build density, comprising only 369 luxury villas and 319 luxury apartments in low rise blocks on an area of 1,100,00 sqm. It is a secure gated community with regular security patrols and Villa Franka is situated in a very quiet area. The resort is centred around a Jack Nicklaus design desert style golf course with plenty of sand (see the picture of the first hole) and encompassing a lot of the natural terrain. The course is 6185m off the whites and 5634m off the yellow tees, both at par 71. A hole by hole guide is available on the net. There is also a newly opened (July 08) "Clubhouse" with shops, bars, restaraunts and a very well stocked supermarket. The clubhouse fits beautifully with the architecture and exclusivity of the resort having breathtaking views over the 18th green and golf course all the way down to the Mar Menor. A perfect place for a meal or a glass or two after a round or as the sun goes down. Also situated in the clubhouse is a gym and a couple of computers with Internat access. Cycles are available for hire and there are Tennis courts beside the clubhouse. There are numerous small parks with swings etc dotted around the resort, the nearest being 2-3 mins walk away. Regarding Golf at El Valle, residents are entitled to reduced green fees (currently 55 Eu) at El Valle and all the other Polaris resorts. and often there are special deals eg free buggies, meals or multiple round tickets - there are also futuristic Segways - adapted two wheeled scooters with a rack for your golf bag for hire - a challenge in itself! All the Golf Courses are by Nicklaus design and are beautifully laid out making the most of the natural terrain.El Valle itself is an extremely interesting strategic course with a beautiful mountain backdrop and many changes of elevation, well bunkered and with some well placed water hazards including a lake and stream coming into play on the 17th and 18th - watch your card! The greens are also something else! There is a free shuttle bus linking all the Polaris sites to enable you to sample a wider range of facilities without driving. Facilities on Mar Menor Resort and LaTorre resort include an ESPA Spa centre at the Mar Menor and La Torre Intercontinental Hotels, plus a selection of restaurants, and the shuttle bus lets you enjoy them easily.Approx 20 mins away is the resort of Los Alcazares (see the picture of the stunning beach) which has a very wide selection of international restaurants Chinese, Indian, Italian, seafood etc and bars and is also home to a weekly market. There are also many festivals in the region mostly celebrating religous or historical events including a Roman camp re-enactment in Cartagena. There are also Jazz festivals held throughout the year at various places with the biggest being The International Jazz Festival in Cartagena (November). There are even gastronomic festivals such as the Dia del Cadero in Los Alcazares in October. Local markets can be found at most of the local towns eg Los Alcazares - every Thursday. Full details of all these festivals and carnivals can be found on the Murcia Tourist Board website - there are literally too many to mention here!

“Perfect child friendly villa in a very quiet location, a car is a must”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2012

Villa Franka provides every thing you could possibly need for a self catering break. It is extremely child friendly, our little 13 month old was able to toddle around inside and out without worrying about her, the safety fence around the pool was a god send! The supermarket on site stocks a lot of essentials and is quite reasonably priced, but if you want to go to a bigger supermarket they are only about 20 minutes by car. We had two meals at the club house on site, but both of which were pretty horrible, so I wouldn't recommend going there. You definitely need to hire a car to get around and the roads are pretty straightforward once you've got used to them. There are plenty of things to do in the villa if you want to get out of the sun for a while, all the UK tv channels you could want, dvd's, stereo, games etc and if you want to use wifi you just have to buy a card from the supermarket. I would definitely recommend this villa, it is a perfect child friendly villa and if you are happy to drive to all amenities/restaurants etc then this is perfect for you.

“Great villa, especially with young kids!”

Reviewed 19 Sep 2012

We stayed for a week in this villa with our 1 year old son and our friends who also have a 1 year old. The houseowners are very helpfull and the house was indeed ready for two young kids with everything we could possibly need, two high chairs, travel cots, strollers, plastic cutlery, toys and most importantly a gate around the pool! For the adults the house offers plenty of luxury as well, with lovely bbq area, good beds, clean bathrooms, sky tv etc. Car is needed for the location, but once you have a car there is plenty to do and see in the region. The villa is on a quiet resort that is well kept. Only minor point I can think of is that you have to pay for interrnet, but can definitely recommend this villa!

Thanks for your feedback, it is very helpful to us - we aim to have free internet set up for the 2013 season.

“The Villa is beautiful and in a lovely and very secure location with a Restaraunt, Supermarket on the site.”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2012

The Villa is spacious and well furnished and in a great location. The private pool was great and was well used by our teenage son and daughter who were with us. The Satellite TV has excellent picture quality and all the GB and Irish stations are available - we were able to keep up with the Olympics. Internet was available at the Villa which meant we could communicate when necessary. We had a wonderful relaxing time and travelled to the local towns and the City of Murcia. There is no shortage of Resturaunts within a short driving distance The on site assistance was there if we needed.
