The Valenciana region
Altea - 30 mins north of Bonalba, this pretty hill-top village is known as the cultural capital of the Valencian Region and has long been a popular retreat for artists and sculptors;
Beaches: there are 7 beaches from El Campello to Alicante, 10 minutes drive away are: El Campello-a promenade full of bars and restaurants backs this white sandy beach; San Juan- 7km of fine white sand and, with an average width of 90m there is plenty of room for everyone. South of Alicante Arenales and Urbanova are worth a visit.
Benidorm: - two excellent beaches and 5 theme/water parks make this a popular holiday spot for all ages-particularly with Spanish holiday-makers;
Benimantell: Two excellent restaurants: LObrer and Venta la Montana are worth a visit;
Busot: 20 minutes inland from Bonalba-the enormous Cuevas de Canalobre - Candelabra Caves - are a must to visit. So is the Casa restaurant in Busot with it's excellent menu del dia at € 16 including wine.
Calpe -dominated by the Penon dIfach-the largest single rock in the Mediterranean. A two-hour round trip will take you to the top of this nature reserve with its spectacular views, and back.
Elche: home of the largest date-palm plantation in Europe and a World Heritage Site
Gata de Gorgos: on the way to Javea-famous for basket-ware and good quality souvenirs.
Guadalest: one of the most popular tourist attractions in Spain. Of Islamic origin and the site of several castles. Team this with a visit to the Fonts d@Algar waterfalls.
Javea: a beautiful beach, working port and old town make this an excellent day trip.
Moraira: elegant former fishing village-there is still a fish auction held daily from Tuesday to Sunday in the Lonja de Pescado (fish market)
Tabarca: the only inhabited island off the Costa Blanca-a haven for snorkellers. Take a glass-bottomed boat from El Campello, Alicante or Santa Pola to see the rich marine life around the coast.
Villajoyosa: "Jewelled Town" stretches alongside a palm-lined sandy beach. Villajoyosa has a busy fishing harbour and afternoon fish market. The marketplace has artesian stalls and restaurants. The Valor chocolate factory is open for visitors.
Train/Tram: a 93 km long scenic coastal service with 40 stops from the centre of Alicante to Denia. This is an easy way to get into Alicante from El Campello and San Juan with trams every 30 minutes taking you into the heart of the City for just over a euro.
Shopping: Muxtamel caters for all everyday needs with a Mercadona supermarket, butchers, fish shops, bread shops an internet cafe and weekly Wednesday street market. A large Carrefour Hypermarket is a 5 minute drive away just beyond the junction of the A7.
The above is just a selection of the many attractions of the Costa Blanca - but, if that seems too hectic for those who simply want to relax, the villa has plenty of separate indoor and outdoor living areas to get away from everyone and do just that!!
The Bonalba complex: the 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course is well maintained and has lovely views. The club boasts a golf academy with professional instructors, driving range, putting and bunker practice greens. The clubhouse is welcoming and relaxed and the restaurant is excellent-serving anything from coffee and tapas to full lunches. Next to the clubhouse the Spa area has everything to help adults relax and children have fun! The outdoor pool (open during summer months only) is set in tropical gardens with slides, waterfalls, “beach” area and snack bar and separate children’s play area. The indoor caves/pool has a Jacuzzi and separate child area and is open all year, as are the gym, steam room and sauna. Health and beauty treatments and a hairdressing salon are also available throughout the year.
The commercial centre has 2 small shops-open 7 days a week including fiestas-which provide essentials. There are cafes open daytime; and various cafes, bars and a pizza takeaway which remain open into the evening.
