But the Old School apartment also gives you the added benefit of independence and flexibility. Cook a romantic meal in the fully fitted contemporary kitchen, with the dining area overlooking the courtyard. Or take the travel rug and head out for a picnic in Holyrood Park. Or you can take a short stroll to wine and dine in the many nearby city centre restaurants.

After all, with royalty as neighbours, it is fitting that you also experience some of the grandeur of royalty – albeit on a smaller scale - by staying in this former school, the most commanding building overlooking the Royal park. New to the holiday rental market, this studio offers luxury boutique accommodation with all the extras you would expect from a five star hotel - but not at a princely sum!

The apartment sits within communal gardens and also benefits from free private parking, wifi and a luggage locker for storing suitcases after check out time. Access is via a key within a keybox so you have the flexibility of letting yourselves in at a time that suits you.

The Location:

The views and cobbled street of St Leonards in which the apartment is located gives the apartment a country setting, especially with the entrance to Holyrood Park with the famous Arthur's Seat - recently voted as one of the world's best City Hikes by Lonely Planet - literally 20 steps from your front door. However, the best bit is that the apartment is actually located just to the south-east of the Old Town.

Restaurants, shops, the recently refurbished Commonwealth swimming pool and gymnasium, Edinburgh Festival venues, the Scottish Parliament building, The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the 63 acres parklands known as The Meadows and attractions such as Dynamic Earth are all within less than a 10 minutes' walk. The Royal Mile and the elegant Princes Street are also both just a lovely stroll away or you can jump on a bus, with a stop just metres from the end of St Leonards Street.

“Quality stylish apartment in excellent location”

Reviewed 16 Dec 2015

Unlike many of the holiday cottages and apartments we have stayed at over many years in the UK, the owners here have gone out of their way to ensure you feel welcome and will enjoy your visit. Not just top marks for the essentials - clean, warm and comfortable - but there are many thoughtful extra touches to make the stay memorable. Adjacent parking was essential for us and we will look to stay here again on our next Edinburgh trip.

“WOW and Outstanding Appartment”

Reviewed 23 Nov 2015

After living in England all our lives and travelling extensively I can't believe we have never been to Scotland before and we shall definitely come again...This is also the first time we have hired/booked an appartment....and Wow...what a wonderful place this Old School apt was...From the minute you walk in you get that wow factor and the place was spotless..Everything was thought of to make your experience a joy to be there..A warm welcome from the flowers and chocs on the table and having fresh milk and tea/coffee...The Apartment is decorated to a very high standard, yet you feel as though you can just kick your shoes off and totally chill (which we did)..The Apt is only a 10/15 min walk to the city and all the sights and sounds of Edinburgh, and there are many places to eat and drink to choose from should you choose, but the apt has it's oustanding kitchen with all the amenities to cook your own should you feel like it.. If your looking for that special break and pamper experience look no further...We highly recommended staying here and the cost is good too...Cheers..Steve n Sue

“A superb property in the heart of Old Town Edinburgh”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2015

Following an excellent break we had in another Edinburgh Hideaways property (The Old School Tower) earlier in the year we decided to stay at this one for our visit to the Edinburgh Festival and once again we were delighted. Furnished to an exceptional standard throughout, this property felt really special and its location made it ideal for exploring the city or scaling the heights of Arthur’s Seat. Throughout our stay it was obvious that the owners were happy to go the extra mile to ensure that as guests we were happy and this made for a truly great experience. So if you’re looking for a great place to stay in Edinburgh I can whole heartedly recommend this one or indeed the Old School Tower.

We couldn't have asked for better guests, nor indeed a better review! Thanks so very much for coming back to stay at one of our little Hideaways and for your much appreciated and lovely feedback. We hope to welcome you both back again soon.

“Wow!”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2015

The Old School apartment has to be seen to be believed. The decor was amazing, the apartment spotless and there was even milk, tea, coffee and some shortbread waiting for us, as well as some chocolates and a vase of beautiful roses. A 10 - 15 minute walk to the Royal Mile, with plenty of supermarkets and restaurants nearby. We even had good weather. We didn't get to meet Gillian and Ewen, but that was probably a good sign, as it meant everything worked well and there were no problems. We are very happy to have had the opportunity to stay here! Thanks Gillian and Ewen!

Thanks so much for your lovely review. I can't tell you how pleased we are that you enjoyed your stay so much and that you've given the Old School a 'wow' review! Very chuffed. Thanks for being fabulous guests!

“Amazing apartment”

Reviewed 1 Jun 2015

This place is just lovely. Designer, stylish decor with everything you need for a holiday in Edinburgh. Location is perfect - quick walk into the centre and next to Arthurs Seat. Cant fault it.... Comfy bed - fully equipped kitchen - washing machine - and free wifi. The owners are very friendly and unbelievably helpful. We have already booked again for next year.

Thank you so much for your lovely review - we're so glad you enjoyed the apartment and you're coming back for more next year. Can't wait to host you again. Thanks for being amazing (and amazingly tidy!) guests.

“Beautiful apartment with everything needed for a stay in Edinburgh”

Reviewed 11 May 2015

The apartment at Old School Place was perfect for our three night stay in Edinburgh. It was furnished to a very high standard and had everything you need plus some nice touches like milk, tea, biscuits, chocolates and fresh flowers on arrival. Once we found our bearings, the apartment was no more than a 10-15 minute walk to the city centre (Royal Mile, Waverley Station, Princes Street etc). We did not need to contact the owner (Gillian) whilst in Edinburgh, but the information we received via email before we arrived contained everything we needed to know for our trip. We would definitely recommend to any couples who fancy the freedom of an apartment (as opposed to staying in a hotel) and would come back if we were to travel without the kids again!

Thank you so much for giving the Old School top marks! I'm so pleased that your little break away without the kids lived up to expectations and that you were able to chill out and relax. We really appreciate you taking the time to give us your lovely feedback.

“5 Star Rating”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2014

No expense was spared in creating such a warm, elegant and comfortable condo. We had a fantastic time staying in this 5 star location (our personal rating). The attention to every detail made our stay very special. Everything from coffee, tea, fresh flowers, personal messages await guests who arrive and are pampered throughout the entire time. We hope to return again someday; for this truly was a special place like no other.

Who needs official rating systems with the far-more-valuable 5 star rating from our guests - which means so much more to us. I can't tell you how grateful we are that you took the time to share your lovely comments. Maybe by providing warm and elegant surroundings, we are attracting only warm and elegant guests! Thanks again for staying with us and your very-much-appreciated review.

“supercalifragilisticexpialidocious... It really is that good!”

Reviewed 8 Nov 2014

My partner and I stayed here to celebrate our honeymoon and both of our 21st Birthdays. We could not of asked for more, everything you could possibly need or want is supplied and the apartment itself is beautiful. My wife who LOVES to clean was very impressed with how clean and shiny the whole apartment was, nothing could be faulted. This was my wife's first visit to Scotland and she cannot wait to plan our next visit and stay in one of the old school apartments again. With everything on your doorstep and a bus stop less than a 3 minute walk away, everything is very easy to get too. We were simply spoiled for choice! To end our stay in Edinburgh we dined at 'The Dome' which was a fantastic way to end our visit, and we highly recommend to anyone considering a romantic break :) We will be recommending to all of our friends and family for sure! Thanks again Gillian :D xx

We're so honoured that you chose to stay at the Old School apartment to celebrate not one, not two but three special occasions! And thank you so much for your lovely comments. I'll pass the cleaning compliment on to our very own Mary Poppins who will chuffed to bits with helping with towards the supercalifragilisticexpiadalidocious experience!

“gorgeous high quality yet cosy apartment”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2014

Absolutely beautiful apartment in a great location in Edinburgh. Stayed for a week on our honeymoon and it was just perfect. Everything you needed was in the flat including champagne glasses, dvds, iPod speakers, bathrobes and and molton brown toiletries. Beautifully finished decor to incredibly high standards and very luxurious and romantic feel to the place. Think mg favourite thing was the fire effect screen ! Brilliantly located next to Holyrood park and lots of bus routes to various places if didn't feel like walking (also very cheap for taxis to town). Gillian (owner) couldn't have been more helpful including recommendations for places to eat - visited blonde restaurant about 2 minutes walk away and was wowed by good food and easy going vibe. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the apartment and would come back to the flat and Edinburgh in a heartbeat.

“Stunning!”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2014

Beautiful and handy location. Stylish apartment that still had that homely feel (but much more clean and tidy than our home). Ewan and Gillian have thought of everything, there were so many thoughtful extras dotted around the apartment. We loved it and will be returning, perfection.
