Description

Our unique mews property lies nestled in the curve of the mansions in Regent, Carlton and Royal Terraces, built by William Playfair in the 1820s. The mews housed the stables and coach houses of the surrounding houses and have now been converted into beautiful and unusual character properties. Carlton Terrace Mews has a stunning central garden and truly is an oasis in the centre of the city. Princes St lies less than ten minutes' walk to the west and the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood House and Arthur's Seat a similar distance to the south. The apartment offers perfect accommodation for those who want to be in a quiet location yet close to the exciting amenities and entertainments Edinburgh has on show. Due to the staircase being a little steep, the house is not very suitable for those with restricted mobility.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Edinburgh has something for everyone: hillwalker to film buff, theatre enthusiast to amateur archaeologist, gardener to art critic. A small, walkable city, there is a piece of history round every corner. Like Rome, Edinburgh is built on seven hills and the nearest are within easy walking distance of the house. The city has excellent transport links both within and outwith its boundaries. Should the culture and shops of Edinburgh pall, Glasgow is forty minutes away on the train. St Andrews and the Highlands lie across the river within an hour an a half or so. East Lothian with its unrivalled beaches and golf courses lie thirty minutes to the east.

Edinburgh

The mews itself is quiet and tranquil yet only a short walk from a large supermarket and other retail outlets in Meadowbank and only slighter further to the East End of Princes St, the Playhouse Theatre and John Lewis. Within ten minutes of the mews is Princes St, overlooked by the mighty castle, Holyrood Palace where you can see the blood spilled by Rizzio for the love of Mary, Queen of Scots and the controversial Scottish Parliament building.

“Lovely stay”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2016

Lovely cottage in a perfect location; led itself wonderfully as a great base base to explore Edinburgh by foot and a great cottage to spend a cosy night in. We will be coming back. Thank you so much.

Thank you, Katharine. I am so glad you had a lovely stay. I think you were mostly lucky with the weather too. Kind regards. Mary

“Fantastic, comfortable base in central Edinburgh mews”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2014

My 5 year old son and I went with friends for a few days in Edinburgh, and were delighted with 31 Carlton Terrace Mews. The two bedrooms were a very good size, with comfortable beds. The sitting room and kitchen were very well appointed, had everything needed for easy self catering, and were charming and comfortable spaces. The bathrooms were also great. The flat was warm and cosy - very important in February in Edinburgh! The location of the Mews is brilliant - very central indeed, and within easy walking distance of many of Edinburgh's great sites, as well as near plenty of restaurants and bars. The flat is also near bus routes, for excursions further afield. The Mews itself is charming - a lovely, quiet, tucked away corner, in 'real' Edinburgh - nothing like a soulless chain hotel. I would wholeheartedly recommend 31 Carlton Terrace Mews, and hope to stay here again, on my family's next trip to Edinburgh.
