The Old School Tower is one of our three beautiful holiday properties located in the former bell tower of this histotric old school. This second floor apartment has attracted the same five star reviews as our other properties and has the added benefit of balconies on which to wine and dine! (As the Tower apartment is often booked far in advance, please also check out our brand new and very funky apartment on the first floor - called the Old School Master Suite - search for property 5531553).
The Old School Tower apartment is situated in a unique building right on the edge of the beautiful Holyrood Park, this extremely glamorous apartment is sure to delight! The Old School Tower - which is just a short stroll away from the Royal Mile, winding up to Edinburgh Castle - feels like a little piece of countryside in the heart of the city.
The apartment is on the second floor of the bell tower in an historic old school which enjoys spectacular views over Holyrood Park and the cliffs of Salisbury Crags, leading up to the famous peak of Arthur's Seat - recently named as one of the world's best 'city hikes' by Lonely Planet. This contemporary apartment is flooded with natural light and features opulent furnishings, designer wallpaper and fabrics and hand-crafted furniture. It is particularly suited to couples enjoying a city break or romantic getaway.
One of the many attractions on your doorstep is the Palace of Holyroodhouse where Her Majesty the Queen often visits with other members of the Royal Family. With royalty as neighbours, it is fitting that you also experience some of the grandeur of royalty – albeit on a smaller scale.
This peaceful, individually designed studio apartment is the epitome of urban glamour but with the comfort of home. With the French style décor, you might say it reminds you of a mini Palace of Versailles!
Underfloor heating, cosy bathrobes, the best of Egyptian cotton bed linen, an opulent king size bed with a high quality pocket-sprung mattress, fluffy white bath towels, a feature fire, sumptuous velvet curtains, flat screen TV and DVD player (with a selection of DVDs provided), chandeliers, an iPod docking station, designer furniture and accessories, along with the well-fitted shower-room with Molton Brown toiletries, all give you a feeling of a boutique hotel suite.
But the Old School Tower also gives you the added benefit of independence and flexibility. You can take a short stroll to wine and dine in the many nearby city centre restaurants or you can opt to sip a glass of wine on the balcony, before cooking a romantic meal in the fully fitted, separate contemporary kitchen. Alternatively, take the travel rug and head out for a picnic in Holyrood Park.
The apartment sits within communal gardens and also benefits from free private parking and free wifi.

The views and cobbled street of St Leonards in which the apartment is located gives the apartment a country setting, especially with the entrance to Holyrood Park literally 20 steps from your front door. However, the best bit is that the apartment is actually located just to the south-east of the Old Town.
Restaurants, shops, the recently refurbished Commonwealth swimming pool and gymnasium, Edinburgh Festival venues, the Scottish Parliament building, The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the 63 acres parklands known as The Meadows and attractions such as Dynamic Earth are all within less than a 10 minutes' walk. The Royal Mile (0.9 miles) and the elegant Princes Street (just 1.2 miles) are both a lovely stroll away or you can jump on a bus, with a stop just metres from the end of St Leonards Street.
Edinburgh airport has fantastic links to the city centre by bus, tram or taxi and the train station - Waverley Station - is just over a mile away.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Old School Tower. The location was ideal, as it was just steps away from Holyrood Park and the climb to Arthur's Seat, and an easy walk to any of the local bus routes as well as the Hop on/Off bus tour. We were also able to walk to many excellent restaurants in the area, the Royal Mile, and to get groceries when we needed to. The quality of the apartment itself is incredible. The decor is beautiful, and quality of materials used was excellent. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in. We were so cosy in our apartment that we looked forward to returning "home" every day after our touring of Edinburgh. We loved ending our days with a glass of wine while enjoying the view from the beautiful terrace. Gillian has thought of everything to make your stay perfect. Every aspect of the apartment has been designed and thought out to ensure a feeling of luxury and comfort. We highly recommend staying here, and we will definitely do so once again.
What lovely feedback - thank you so much!! I'm so pleased you got some rare Scottish sunshine to enjoy a glass of wine or two on the balcony. Thanks for being fantastic guests and for going to the trouble of writing such a lovely review.

We have now stayed at two of the Hideaway properties: both were outstanding. In terms of price, location, and standard and quality of service, these self-catering properties are our new gold standard for Edinburgh (and beyond). Visiting these sumptuously designed flats has become one of the highlights of our special breaks in one of our favourite cities.
Thank you so much for so many lovely superlatives! Thank you for your repeat business! And thank you for taking the time to write us such a lovely review. Can't wait to welcome you back.

"A hidden gem"
Just the most wonderful place - attention to detail was amazing and we booked to stay again before we'd even left!

"Fabulous accommodation; great location"
From the minute we arrived we felt warmly welcomed by all the special touches - flowers, personalised welcome sign, chocolates, biscuits, and the list goes on. Great place for doing your own cooking if you want to eat in, but close enough to walk everywhere in Old Edinburgh should you want to. Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace all just a walk away, and the view from the Old School Tower was amazing - right over Arthur's Seat on the edge of Holyrood Park. Gillian and Ewan were fantastic in their communication, and so happy to oblige with special requests. Would highly recommend this place. We were sorry to have to leave. (Private parking was a bonus also, especially when you hardly needed the car at all.). Loved the feel of being in the Old School Tower and the beautifully finished apartment. One of the great experiences of our holiday.
Thank you so much for your fabulous review - I can't tell you how chuffed we are to have been one of the highlights of your trip! Thanks for including us in your travels and for being such fantastic guests.

"A hidden gem in lovely Edinburgh"
We just came home from a lovely stay at the Old School Tower. A beautiful apartment located right next to Arthur's Seat. The place was clean, very well equipped and the perfect hideaway for a romantic time in this lovely city. The host Gillian was extremely helpful with advise and there were good info in the partner in what to do and see in Edinburgh. We will definitely be back!
Thanks so much for your lovely review - I'm so pleased you enjoyed staying at our little Edinburgh Hideaway. Thanks for being great guests. We look forward to welcoming you both back one day.

"Welcoming, comfortable, convenient, relaxing accommodation."
Hosts were welcoming and very involved in ensuring a comfortable and successful stay. They were very contactable (in my case via email), responding almost immediately. When I arrived, the accommodation was warm and welcoming, milk in the fridge, coffee and filter pot in the cupboard, bed very comfortable, shower water hot, TV conveniently placed, suggestions for restaurants and things to do, places to see. Loved my stay. Looked out my window at Arthur's Seat (which my host gave me best advice on approaching), Edinburgh was a great place to visit. David Bann Restaurant was tops for vegetarian food and only an easy walk away. Easy walk to the castle, palace, recommend Mary King's Close, I could go on.
We believe that lovely apartments attract lovely guests! Thank you so much for being one of them.....and for writing us such a glowing review. Hugely appreciated.

"Wonderful feeling of luxury and indulgence"
Apartment offers complete comfort coupled with luxury. Location perfect for access to city centre and local attractions with the added bonus of free parking. I am very confident that I will be recommending and sharing our great experience whilst staying in the old school tower. We look forward to another stay in the future.
I just had to thank you for writing such a lovely and positive review about your stay at the Old School Tower apartment. It was such a pleasure to host you both and we're really chuffed you're planning to come back again one day!

"Top Quality and Attention to Detail"
Quality is the first word to describe this apartment. It has been beautifully renovated and filled with top quality furniture, furnishings and appliances. The owners have also gone to enormous effort to think about what travellers might want and then they have provided it - a dishwasher and washer/dryer to name just two. Finally they have added lots of little luxuries - fresh flowers, personal message when you arrive, a selection of recent DVD's , biscuits to go with the plentiful supply of milk, tea and - yes - proper filter coffee. The location is just next to Hollyrood Park, so you can have a hour or so's walk around Arthurs seat before breakfast. I could go on and on as I cannot rate this property more highly. I will just say that it is almost worth going to Edinburgh just to stay at this 5 star+++ accommodation. I wish Gillian and Ewen every success. They deserve it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for such a glowing review! Ewen is especially glowing just now as he actually made some of the furniture which you kindly describe as being as top quality :-) We're so glad you had such a good time and of course that you're coming back!

"Another Romantic Hideaway for Two - With Views"
Everything I wrote about the Old School flat can be said about Gillian's latest creation, but in addition this new flat has some of the best views to be found in Edinburgh and with a balcony to enjoy those views. Once again this is a compact flat for two in a superb location with everything that one could require for a short break. And again there was the attention to detail in everything from the interior design, the luxury bathroom and the ultra-modern kitchen to the welcoming letter and the flowers. We would definitely stay there again. One note of caution: There is no lift, though there is a resting place on each floor.
Thanks so much Rod for your lovely review - we were really pleased you and Sophie came back to sample another of our 'Edinburgh Hideaways'. I know you love the countryside so I'm really glad you enjoyed the views from the balconies as much as we hoped you would. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day.
