From the owner

Les Tourterelles (The Turtledoves) has been converted from an old timber framed barn into a building reminiscent of the medieval houses of Troyes. It is situated in the charming village of Eclance,on the borders of the ‘Côte de Bar’ and the Champagne Route. It is one of four cottages that line a courtyard.

The large oak beams have been exposed wherever possible as have the limestone walls giving the rooms a certain charm. The first floor is constructed from oak floorboards.

In the large sitting room/dining room, a wood burner nestles in the chimney place providing additional heat and ambience if you so desire. There is a separate, well equipped kitchen.

The main bedroom with an exposed stone wall has a king size bed and satellite TV along with en-suite bathroom with bath, shower, handbasin and toilet as well as a hairdryer. The second bedroom with double aspect windows has two single beds though is large enough to accommodate a third if requested. A large shower room is available. The third bedroom has french windows with a Juliette balcony and an en-suite shower room with toilet and handbasin.

The pricing provided is for six people. Should you want to accommodate 7 people, please contact Sarah for the addition of an extra single bed, price on application.

In front of the gite is a terrace with wood garden furniture and parasol. Privacy is offered by the surrounding flower beds and trellis supporting climbing plants.

Further details

The cottages have been classified as 4 keys(4star) by Clévacances in conjunction with the Tourist Board. To secure your reservation, a contract produced by Clevacances requires your signature and a deposit of 25-30%.

Please note that you are required to have travel insurance or if you live on the continent, a home insurance policy that provides cover when you stay in holiday accommodation. (By civil law in France you are wholly responsible for any damage, accidental or otherwise, caused to holiday property)

Further details indoors

Beds - The cottage is normally set up with two single beds in the twin bedrooms, therefore enough beds for six people. For those guests requiring a seventh bed, there is sufficient space in the second bedroom to accommodate a third bed.

Linens-

The beds are ready made up for your arrival, with quality percale cotton sheets. Also included in the price are towels for the bathroom. Pool towels are available for hire, otherwise please bring your own. A cot for a baby is available for hire.

We do have some toys for the children to play with, as well an an old school desk for two small children from the Eclance school should you want that put into your cottage for you. Just let us know.

Further details outdoors

The large outdoor heated pool is available for use from mid-May to mid-September. It is surrounded by a wall that provides privacy and shelter as well as security for young children running around in the garden. Adults are responsible for their children when they use the pool. The pool face south making the most of the sunshine and when you are tired of swimming, sunbathing, snoozing or reading that novel, just wander around and soak up the panorama around you of the hills, fields and forests.

There is a petanque/boules court and there are two sets of boules available for you play under the shade of trees. There is a table tennis table with bats and balls on a terrace that provides lighting in the evenings.

A BBQ terrace is situated beside the large limestone barn with a chimenea so that for late into the evening you get the refracted heat from the barn along with the cheery and warm atmosphere from the burning wood (regardless if it is not cool enough to warrant lighting the fire!). The tables and chairs can be moved from this area to under the trees if you prefer to eat in during the day in the shade of the trees.

For quiet contemplation, your own space or a lovely place to have an aperatif at the end of the day watching the sun set over the fields and forests, there are two terraces at the end of the garden.

The roads around Eclance are generally very quiet and we find them great for cycling. Should you prefer mountain bike riding, there are many tracks through the forests, fields and vineyards. You are welcome to bring your own bikes or you may prefer to hire them locally. There are a couple of bike hire shops nearby.

If walking is more to your taste, there are some very good routes in the surrounding area - suggested itineraries are available.

Owner's reply:
Thank you very much for your review. We are well placed being in Champagne region but also within easy driving distance of Burgundy including the Chablis vineyards. I concur with your comment about needing a car. It is best to have your own transport as we are set in a small village in the countryside and like most of rural France there is little public transport off the beaten track. Having said that, the closest restaurant is about 2-4 minutes drive with at least another 3 within 5 minutes drive. Our large barn is a benefit as it keeps your cars nice and cool. We hope to welcome you back! Sarah & James

Owner's reply:
Many thanks for your review. We are lucky that our guests have always been very warmly welcomed to any of our village social events. We also happen to lucky that Eclance is unusual in having an active social committee! For any potential guest contemplating a stay at the La Ferme des Tourterelles, we have invested in satellite technology to access the internet which has opened up many possibilities of its use unlike when we were on the end of just the single telephone line to the village! Unfortunately there is a limitation on how much information can pass via the satellite per month. We have invested in the largest package possible with our provider. When you visit rural France, you will find that it is not unusual that large tracts of rural areas are not linked to broadband/fibre optic technology. We therefore offer better access via satellite than many rural gîtes! In order to fairly share the usage, we have had to place a limit on the amount of data per user per week so there are times when our guests hit the limit we have set for free access. It sounds as though this turned into a benefit for you Kathryn! Regardless, we offer a booster package (as does our supplier) such that our guests can always buy extra capacity so the internet is always there if you surpass the free allocation. These booster packages are passed on to our guests at exactly the same price we are charged by the satellite company so if the internet is important to you, please be aware it may always be accessed - you just have to pay for the extra capacity that you use. France is starting to offer more competition so we are reviewing alternative satellite suppliers which could open up unlimited access - though this needs to be weighed against potentially a slower service. In the meanwhile, we advise our guests how they can maximise their free allocation. We are on the edge of regional natural park with views across rolling hills of fields and forests. Nothing better than to relax with a glass of champagne on one of the terraces taking in these views!
