Eastoke

Hayling Island combines all the attractions of a traditional seaside holiday with excellent sporting and leisure facilities.Hayling Island is an island in the true sense of the word, being completely surrounded by natural watercourses. It is about 6.5 kilometres (4 miles) long and 6.5 kilometres wide. A single road bridge connects its northern end to the mainland of Southern England and a small passenger ferry connects it to the neighbouring island of Portsea where the city of Portsmouth is located. All this is set in a beautiful natural environment, preserved because of its exceptional flora and fauna and includes a wildlife haven which has become an important seabird breeding site. The island's miles of unspoilt coastline and countryside also offer a haven of peace and tranquillity, where visitors can walk, cycle or relax. Windsurfing was invented on Hayling Island and as well as events linked to this popular activity there is some of the best sailing on the South Coast. Hayling Island is the only place in Britain to qualify for two European Blue Flag awards and its excellent beaches have also been awarded a Tidy Britain Seaside Award for their water quality, safety and cleanliness.Situated between Portsmouth and Chichester harbour and linked to the mainland by both road bridge and ferry, Hayling Island has many hotels, B&Bs, campsites and self catering accommodation and also has holiday centres offering activity breaks for adults. The southern part of Hayling is the part of the island best known by holidaymakers, and is a combination of excellent beaches and countryside with the settlements of West Town, Gable Head and Eastoke spreading to meet each other but with fields, farms, woods and the sea all within easy reach.Sailing and boardsailing are two activities for which the island is internationally renowned, conditions being perfect for both sports.

“Great little getaway”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2016

We arrived later than expected due to traffic on the dreaded M25 but Jenny (Freda was away) warmly greeted us and gave us the lowdown on the practicalities of Sycamore. Our kids (3 1/2 and 16 months) were right at home opening and closing cupboards and once we worked out where we could put up our travel cot (the caravan is 2 snug bedrooms) so the kids would be happy and comfortable and we would get a good sleep too, we decided to head to the club house and register for our leisure passes. Note: ensure you register prior to 6pm (apparently they can't do it at reception after this time) Dinner in the club house was pretty basic and pricey but fine. The entertainment was good for the kids and had a good turn out although was really, really loud - not ideal for little ears. We went back to Sycamore for a great nights sleep (after drinking the complimentary wine!) in the cosy bed linen that was all provided. We made full use of the kitchen facility and cannot fault anything as all has been thought about well. My only small niggle was that the terrace did not have a gate and so with the warmish weather it was necessary to have the door open when we were there and our little one made a beeline for the steps - typical! Thank you so much for a lovely break away! John, Lindsey, Oscar & Darcey (from Kent)

“Compact and great”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2013

Very clean and comfortable location. Great communications with Freda who met us at the park and gave us lots of great local tips. The bedrooms are certainly compact ( but we knew this before we booked) but the lounge are surprisingly roomy with nice little deck off the lounge. Kitchen had everything you wanted and the shower bigger than we expected Would highly recommend location. Personally we would find it a bit "cosy" for more than a few days but it was ideal for what we wanted

“Excellent - Highly recommended”

Reviewed 17 Nov 2012

From start to finish this was a most pleasant experience. In the caravan, everything had been thought of even down to washing up liquid, tea, coffee and sugar. The site was also excellent and a small membership charge gave us access to a lovely heated swimming pool as well as many other facilities. Most welcoming and great fun for us both. We look forward to going back again!

“Quiet, peaceful and cosy”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2012

We have stayed on Hayling Island many years in different types of accommodation, but this static caravan was one of the best. The caravan was warm, cosy and welcoming. The welcome pack of tea, coffee etc was a nice touch. The linen sheets and towels was clean and the bedrooms beautifullypresented. The site has small friendly facilities, a club house and indoor swimming pool. For the grandchildren there was an indoor ball pit pay area but this was unsupervised. There was an outside pool but this was not open. We would most certain return in the summer for an adult only break as this would give us a chance to walk and revisit the nature reserve and maybe complete the cycle routes. We loved our stay on Hayling.
