Description

Seagate cottage is one of a line of Jacobean cottages on the historic All Saints Street in Hastings Old town, East Sussex.
Originally built in 1640 she is full of character and rustic charm and is just a 60 second walk to the Stade (seafront) The brilliant shops and pubs of the Old town and the East hill nature reserve for great walking and views are also right on the doorstep.

Seagate sleeps 4 adults comfortably, with two double bedrooms and a single bed in the attic room for younger guests (so sleeps 5 in total plus cot for a baby). We have bathroom with bath and shower and a separate loo. You enter to a living room with wooden beams and an original inglenook fireplace with wood-burning stove, to the back of the house is a kitchen with dining table that leads to a small patio garden. We are very child friendly, providing a high chair, a cot with bedding, baby bath, and stair gates as well as a guard for the wood-burner. At Seagate we have Internet TV including BBC iPlayer

“Beautiful romantic stay in an ideal location”

Reviewed 13 Mar 2014

We fell in love with this cottage the moment we stepped foot inside and immediately felt that it was a special place. The cottage had more than we could ask for, including a well stocked kitchen with good appliances. Hastings seaside and the Old town was right on our door stop, which made it so convenient to pop back if needed. It was really romantic and cozy for the two of us over the weekend break, but we'd also love to return to Seagate Cottage with friends, as there is plenty of room for more!

“Wonderful, quirky, comfortable, well placed cottage.”

As a group of three mature adults we enjoyed a lovely stay at Seagate Cottage over the 2013/2014 New Year week. We encountered foul weather for most of our time there but the cottage was so quirky and comfortable that this helped us to enjoy ourselves nevertheless. It was really wonderful to arrive and find fresh milk in the fridge and tea bags and coffee available – this is a very nice touch and very welcoming. In spite of the wet and icy cold winds outside the cottage was well insulated, and always warm, with a cosy fire to light up when at home. It is very well situated in the old town and only a very short walk to anywhere one would wish to go to when visiting. We followed the footsteps of ‘Foyal’s War’ and a walk on the common on top of the hill (reached via the funicular opposite the fishing museum) is a must for the fresh air and the views. We enjoyed visits to Bexhill, Rye and Battle (we rode the local buses to get there – easy, fun and no parking problems). We would highly recommend at stay at this lovely, historical cottage.

“At home in Hastings old town”

Seagate Cottage is perfectly situated to make the most of the delightful setting of hastings old town — its so near to everything — sea, fisherman's huts, the Jerwood gallery, shops, bars, pubs and great eating places. The cottage is roomy and cosy with a well appointed kitchen, log burner in the living room, great shower & bath and friendly neighbours. We really enjoyed being residents of the house and town for a week and will certainly return for another family reunion.

“Old world charm and modern convenience, right by the sea”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2014

Seagate cottage is in the ideal location in the middle of Hastings Old Town, a literal stone's throw from the sea. Perfect for access to the beach and the fish market. The Old Town is full of nice little shops and restaurants and good fun to wander around. Cross the road and go up the steps and there are some great walks along the cliffs overlooking Hastings. The cottage itself is really cosy (we were there on a windy and rainy October weekend so that was important), full of period character with wonky walls and low doorways - tall people need to mind their heads! - but also well appointed with a good shower and modern kitchen. We particularly enjoyed using the wood-burning stove in the living room. We were two couples and there was plenty of room for us, the cottage would accommodate another single or child in a cute little attic room. It's really nicely decorated and makes for a great base, something we appreciated especially as we spent a lot of time indoors. I imagine in summer the patio at the rear would be a lovely spot but sadly we didn't have the weather to enjoy it. Overall we had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning in summer so that we can make more use of the beach.

“Amazing break, lovely location”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2013

We stayed here for a 4 day holiday in June 2013. We were looking for a chilled out weekend away near the sea with our mischievous toddler. Seagate was beautiful, stunning cottage in the best location. Close enough to have everything on hand but out of the way of the main old town. Right next to the car park, aquarium and a short walk to everything else. The cottage is cosy and welcoming, so much nicer than a hotel. We actually spent a fair bit of time staying in, and with the trappings that come with a 1 year old it was far better than the confines of a hotel room. The whole process was easy and stress free which is a miracle for me, we ended up arriving at 11pm which was no problem, we were met at the front door with a set of keys a very quick tour. And there was milk for a well deserved cup of tea! We spent one whole afternoon out in the courtyard listening to the Ipod relaxing in the sun, spent another afternoon walking up the steps to see the amazing views... It truly is a unspoilt place to visit. Hastings itself was lovely, we ate in lovely restaurants (Two Bulls was particularly nice and child friendly despite its wine bar look) there are weatherspoon pubs and the like if that's your thing it seems it does have it all. We all cant wait to go again and highly recommend it.

“Stunning place, perfect location”

Stayed in Seagate cottage for the Mayday bank holiday weekend with a few friends. Can't find a single fault with the place. The decorating is stunning and there's a really cosy feel to the whole place. The oven is good and the setup with the kitchen makes it very inviting for cooking a big meal. It's so close to the old town that we popped in an out of the house throughout the day and All Staints Street is itself a sight to behold.
