Location description from owner

The North Wales region

Beyond the mountains of Snowdonia lie 2 famous bridges across the Menai Strait. They lead to an island where peaceful lanes wind to lakes, forests and long, sandy beaches. It is easy to imagine past centuries - druids cursing the Roman invaders, archers loosing arrows at castle battlements, or tall ships sailing up the Menai Strait from a voyage around Cape Horn. However, Anglesey does not live in the past. It is a centre of modern Welsh culture and language which offers a welcome to people from all over the world. Many visitors come to Anglesey for family holidays, to sail, walk or fish, to explore rock pools or watch birds. It is an unspoiled island, to relax and enjoy the peaceful farmland, pretty villages historic towns and the panoramic views of the mountains and the sea.The Castaways and Penrhyn Mawr Cottage offer perfect peace ans quiet in an idyllic location. But at the same time, it's only 10 minutes drive to the nearest beach and has access to all the lovely beaches that Anglesey affords. A 25 minute drive takes you straight into the Snowdonia National Park.

Dwyran

The accommodation is situated off the A4080 about 2 miles from the village of Dwyran. It is also near to the renowned Newborough forest and beach of Llandwen. The village of Dwyran, with its 12th Century parish church, is largely residential and is sited on the South bank of the Afon, a small river that takes its name from Brigantia, Goddess of the ancient Celts. Just outside the village is the Anglesey Model Village where many of the Island's landmarks are recreated in miniature. South of Dwyran, lanes lead through woods and fields to the Menai Strait. Visit Tal y Foel Riding Centre and other attractions such as the Anglesey Sea Zoo, Foel farm, Henblas Country Park and glorious clean beaches just a ten minute drive away.Kite surfing, wind surfing and sailing on pristine beaches with a Europena Blue Flag award.Walkers can enjoy the coastal path with magnificent scenery and wonderful wildlife.

“A lovely house in a quiet location with the perfect host”

Reviewed 20 May 2014

The house is fantastic for two couples. It's a little off the way, but that adds to the the charm of the site and is great to explore Anglesey and North Wales. The house is very well maintained and looks nicer that the pictures. Also, Clare is an amazing hosts, who will go the extra mile to help you with everything and make your stay as nice as possible. She really cares that you feel at home. Even if we always tend to try different places, we would love to return to Penryn Mawr.

We love what we do ! Most of our visitors return year after year and I hope you will consider coming back one day too. Thank you so much for your kind words. It really means a lot and we will continue to keep standards high. Clare

“The best cottage in Anglesey”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2013

We have stayed a number of times at the Cottage in Dwyran and we love it to bits and never want to leave it. It is sited very close to the Menai Straits and to the delights of Newborough Warren, forest and beach. The peace and seclusion of the very comfortable and well equipped cottage are idyllic and the view from the living room is incredible - across the water to the dunes and to the mountains. If you love nature then this is just the place for a wonderful getaway. We are always so at home and made welcome - just perfect.

“This place is heaven,”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2013

Amazing cottage in the most tranquil of settings, very friendly and helpful owners , fresh flowers , tea and cake on arrival, what more could you ask for,we left fully relaxed and recharged ready for the hustle of normal life again, we will definately return. Highly recommended. Thankyou Claire.

“Relaxing retreat”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2012

If you want the high life with the fast pace and all the high tech modern gagets to go with it you will totally hate this place. We however just wanted to watch TV in a cosy little lounge when the rain came down hard and when it didn't, wonder out down a country lane with our dog, whilst enjoying some peace and quiet in tranquil surroundings. As returning visitors we love it. Clare and Rayton are the perfect hosts who say hello and give a warm welcome and then leave you to enjoy your stay but are on hand if you really need them. The kitchen is very well equiped and is idea for cooking up recipies while you have the time to do it. The beds are comfy for a good nights sleep but you must remember your own linen as this isn't provided. There is no WiFi but there is a small portable HiFi which plays CDs. There is Sky TV but we didn't have a good mobile signal which we love as having busy lives it was great to just switch off. We will be back!!!!

Thank you ! I am so glad you enjoyed your stay again this year at The Castaways. Most of our visitors return year after year. We will continue to keep the standard high and as you rightly point out it is for those seeking peace and quiet with great views. Home from Home !
