Description

This wonderfully restored Georgian country house offers the perfect retreat either for a quiet, luxurious weekend, or bring the house to life with festivities and party celebrations. Step through the classic entrance doors to Ewelme Manor and discover this beautiful Georgian home.

Designed by Anthony Keck in 1760 and once a 'Coming of Age' present to the late William Purnell, Ewelme Manor is the architect's earliest identifiable Gloucestershire country house, also closely associated with Highgrove, Berkeley Castle and Rodborough Manor to name just a few.

The perfect house for entertaining in style, with a superbly equipped kitchen, the Aga, with companion, warming the heart of the home, numerous impressive reception rooms, all with magnificent period open fireplaces, and a recently added outdoor pool complex with cinema room, provides a more contemporary 'spa like' feel and an additional entertaining area.

Location description from owner

The Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds, also known as 'The Heart of England', are the hills and valleys that make up the two famous counties of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, drifting into the boundaries of some of the neighbouring counties. Literally translated as "sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides",The Cotswolds is an area characterised by attractive small towns and villages built of the underlying, famous golden coloured Cotswold stone. In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous as it still remains today, and some of this money was invested into the building of churches so the area has a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". Designated as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the rolling hills and hidden valleys hide picturesque villages, period Rectory's and Stately Homes nestled amongst, without a doubt, some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. Home to the Royals and with the famous cities of Bath, Cheltenham and Bristol on the doorstep, the area offers something for everybody - outdoor pursuits, scenic walks, city thrills or extreme sports. “Fabulous venue for our large family”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2016

We were celebrating my birthday by getting our family together in one place. We range in age from mid 70s to 2 years old, 12 children and 9 adults. The children spent hours in the beautiful heated pool and also had table tennis competitions and cricket matches. We were blessed with fine weather so all meals were taken outside and the BBQ coped with 40 for a lunch party without problem. The rooms are comfortable and attractive. I can heartily recommend Ewelme Manor and wish I was doing the whole event again next year!

“A magnificently stunning house, beautiful gardens, simply exquisite rooms. Incredibly kind and thoughtful Owners!”

Reviewed 18 Apr 2016

We really couldn’t quite believe how stunningly beautiful the house was when we arrived (a group of 18 20-something girls!) and were absolutely blown away by each room which was furnished so tastefully and oozed grandeur! All the finishing touches by Candida were so thoughtful - a rose on each bed with slippers and gown, champagne on ice on arrival, a balloon and decorations. The master bedroom in particular could have been something out of fairy-tale and its adjoining bathroom even better. The kitchen was also one of the best parts of the house being so spacious and having an Aga which, in March was a huge plus. Candida and Steven had already kindly unpacked our rather large grocery shop on arrival including an obscene amount of bubbly which we were very glad to find had been thoughtfully put in the wine fridge! We were extremely lucky to find an outstanding caterer 'The Little Pickle' who came to the house to cook and serve us an impressive 3 course meal in the large dining room. Candida was so helpful from the start and sourced us a fantastic hot tub for the terrace. We couldn't recommend this house more to any large party of friends and family, it caters for everyone and we are most certainly going to be coming back next summer so we can use that fabulous pool! Thank you both again for an unforgettable stay in glorious Gloucestershire.

“Beautiful house in idyllic setting.”

Reviewed 22 Mar 2016

We had a wonderful stay at the house which is beautifully presented and perfect for a weekend away with the wow factor. The little touches of champagne of arrival, chocolates, welcome card and strawberries really gave the weekend a luxury feel. All the girls in the group really appreciated the robes and slippers to relax in the countryside. Candida and Stephen were very helpful with transfers and particularly with receiving and putting away online shopping prior to our arrival. I would throughly recommend to any large group/ family.

“A Beautiful house with something for everyone”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2016

23 of us, made up of 6 families, stayed in this beautiful house over New Year and it did not disappoint. The house is stunning, so much attention to detail ensured that everything was perfect. Candida was most helpful when we initially enquired and did everything to make our stay a memorable one. We would all recommend the house and hope to visit again.

“Perfect house for a weekend away”

Reviewed 15 Dec 2015

13 of us traveled from London to Dursley in hopes of an nice, relaxing weekend away and we were not disappointed. Everything about this was easy - from corresponding with Candida about the booking to ordering a mass amount of groceries and wine to be delivered to the house and ready for our arrival. Besides being easily accessible, Candida is a pleasure to speak with and extremely helpful - she accepted our deliveries, answered all of our questions before and during our stay and had great suggestions for pubs and a place to go shooting (Lady's Wood Shooting school, also amazing and highly recommended). The house itself was incredible and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone for a weekend away in the countryside. We didn't get to use the pool because it was far too cold, but we will definitely be going back in better weather to experience the outdoors a bit more!

“Beautiful House and Grounds - the perfect birthday weekend away”

Reviewed 9 Dec 2015

I hired out Ewelme Manor for my 40th birthday, and it was an absolutely perfect venue for celebrating. I had been looking for somewhere big enough to accommodate 16 of us plus children and also the ability to have caterers in so we did not have to worry about baby-sitters, taxis etc. The house is beautiful. I realise it has been mentioned in previous reviews, but the photos really do not do the place justice. Even though there is so much space, it still feels incredibly homely and cosy (especially with the roaring open fires) which was perfect on the dark, rainy autumnal evenings. Our hosts were fantastic and made sure that everything went smoothly and were available throughout the weekend should we have needed anything. Thank you both again. A wonderful place to stay.

“Fabulous house ideal for special celebrations”

“Idyllic week in the Cotswolds”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2015

we spent an idyllic week in the Cotswolds with our extended family and friends to celebrate Mum's 80th Birthday. Ewelme Manor is perfect for such an event and our stay was made extra special by little touches like flowers in the rooms and a birthday gift for my Mum on her arrival. The house is exactly as advertised and the pool, gardens and outdoor area is wonderful allowing kids of all ages to find their own amusement. There are great walks from the house and the local pubs and excellent butcher in town gives options to dine out or cook in the well equipped kitchen. While we didn't meet Candida during our stay she was available to answer any questions and has provided an information pack of good pubs, walks, restaurants in the area and is happy to provide any local advice to help make your stay more enjoyable. We would not hesitate to recommend Ewelme Manor to anyone looking for a place to host a families get together, it is perfect. Candida, everyone had a great time - thank you again Best regards Steve and Karen Taylor

“70th Birthday / Family Reunion”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2015

This beautiful luxurious house was the perfect venue for our special family reunion on my birthday. A huge thank you to Candida, Simon and Kristina for their help in organising everything and all the lovely extra little touches such as roses and slippers on the bed, chocolates on the towels for the kids and even a bottle of champagne and flowers on arrival. The heated pool was a huge hit with all the children, gorgeous garden and plenty of space inside and outside for everyone. Would love to return - will be recommending to everyone. Thank you again!q

“Magnificent Family Home”

Reviewed 6 May 2015

The owners of this property were very helpful in accomodating our large family group which varied in age from 5 weeks to 90years!They made it very welcoming with lovely extras such as fresh flowers ,chocolates and champagne for the birthday duo, and freshly laundered bathrobes for all guests. The self contained unit by the pool was ideal for my aged parents - large walk in shower- all on one level -with lovely views- close enough to the kitchen(which is very well equipped) and main house and able to enjoy lovely entertaining area around the pool. The young children loved the large garden with trampoline and the pool. Dining Room is magnificent and seated 20 adults for celebratory dinner. The house has lots of character and is well situated for exploring places such as Tetbury Cirencester and National Trust properties. Sainsburys and other supermarkets are a 5 min drive or within walking distance and we used very good outside caterers for our main dinner.
