TripAdvisor CERTIFICATE of EXCELLENCE just achieved 2019 and also 2018 and 2017. This one bedroomed 17th Century holiday Cottage is especially designed for a romantic get away for couples in mind. It is located in a lovely historical village called Ebchester in County Durham, England. There is a Roman Fort buried beneath the grazing field at the back of the cottage and Red Kite birds are frequently sighted flying around the area. The birds have become synonymous with the area and have been embraced, so much so that there is a pub named after them, a red kite bus service and red kite bronze sculptures designed and displayed in the area. The cottage has consistently achieved a four - five star rating over the years. The cottage is a 17th Century holiday cottage in a semi rural setting, in the village of Ebchester, which is a conservation area and is steeped in history. The village has a couple of local pubs serving good quality food, wines and ales and an old historical chiming church and a well stocked little village shop and post office, which is a pleasant walk, just a few hundred yards away passed the horses, so you can go and get your little home comforts and essentials and morning papers. The cottage has a lovely, far reaching, scenic, countryside outlook at the back, where you may have the opportunity to see horses roam in the field at the back of the cottage, weather and welfare permitting. The field at the back of the property has a Roman Fort buried beneath it, where the horses graze and the surrounding areas are peppered with historical artefacts, there are lots of bits of pottery, and possible metal detecting finds, you never know, especially down by the river, which is just around the corner down a steep bank. The Cottage is close to The Derwent walk and The North Pennines is close by, which is a short car drive away, and is an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) and a walkers paradise. You may come across some Alpacas on your travels, and plenty of sheep just roaming around. The lovely tranquil river just around the corner, down a steep bank, which is part of the Derwent River, is lovely to just sit and absorb the sounds of nature and peace or where you could try your hand at fishing, have a picnic or go on some lovely local countryside walks and explore. You may come across an artists gallery to take a peek into and some little piggies and other animals, so you might want to take some pennies with you and some carrots and apples. The cottage is situated perfectly to take advantage of all that the countryside has to offer, walking, cycling, horse riding, sailing....., the cottage is near The Metro Centre, just a short car journey away, VOTED the biggest and best shopping centre in Britain, all under one roof. Or if you like to be beside the seaside, there are some beautiful beaches, not far away, with boutique shops, arts and crafts, pubs and restaurants and for the sea glass lovers like myself, you could spend some time exploring the treasures of the beach and adding to your collection of sea glass. This is one of my favourite past times and is very therapeutic, and I've made some lovely pieces of jewellery and art from my finds. Sea glass can only be found in certain areas of the country, so the cottage is well placed to exploit this opportunity. And of course, there are so many places and landmarks to visit at your leisure, such as Beamish Museum, The Angel of the North, The Baltic and The Sage, at Newcastle Quayside.The cottage has a romantic double bedroom and large bathroom with twin sinks and a deep roll top bath that can easily accommodate two people, should you be inclined to share a fragrant candlelit bath with your loved one. It also has a feature cosy, gas coal effect inglenook fireplace in the lounge to snuggle up to in the cosy winter months, central heating with instant hot water and a well equipped kitchen. A TV and DVD player and good library of CDS,DVDS and books are provided and a selection of board games. There is a pretty bijou cottage garden at the front of the cottage where the infamous 'canny cannon' proudly stands. There is a seating area, in which to enjoy your morning coffee and listen to the birdsong or your evening glass of wine watching the sunset and the stars come out. There is parking for one car situated at the side of the property.The property can be accessed down a quiet pebbled lane. You can be assured of a warm welcome when you stay at the Cottage with a welcome tray being provided on arrival, with tea and coffee facilities and some tasty treats. An inviting chocolate treat is placed on each pillow in the bedroom. And if that's not enough there will be fresh linen and freshly laundered fluffy towels for your use, as well as an intoxicating bottle of wine in the lounge, all complimentary. The Cottage gives you the chance to get away from it all for a while, for some well needed peace and quiet, recreation and quality relaxation time

“Peaceful cottage stay”
My daughter and I enjoyed our short break at the cottage which was very relaxing. The cottage is surrounded by lovely scenery and the autumnal colours of the trees are spectacular at this time of the year. The cottage is well equipped and was perfect for our stay and the personal touches made all the difference. We visited Seaham and had a lovely meal at the Derwent Inn. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.
