The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Located in the heart of the herb scented Corbieres, Residence Belle Vue overlooks a range of beautiful hills that stretch north of the Spanish border and sweep inland from the Mediterranean. The area is blessed with a wonderful climate, enjoying over 300 days of sunshine annually the Languedoc has long hot summers and brief, mild winters. It is an area steeped in history recently immortalised by the books: Labyrinth and The De Vinci Code.
The historic village of Durban is sitauated in the middle of Cathar country, overlooked by an imposing castle it's a typical southern French affair with excellent amenities including a café restaurant, bar, supermarket, bank and florist. There is also a hairdresser, pharmacy, dentist and doctors.
There are local wine caves selling their produce in the village and larger co-operatives within a short drive or cycle. Vineyards, monasteries and castles are scattered throughout the area whilst the fine sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are about 30 minutes away. Many fine restaurants are close to the village including the aclaimed three starred Michelin restaurant at Fontjoncourse (a 15 minute drive away).
Within a 30 minute drive the thriving market towns of Narbonne and Lezignan Corbieres provide a wide range of shops and services, whilst the city of Perpignan close to the Spanish border offers a vibrant mix of influences – more Catalan than French in atmosphere. Swimming and wind-surfing are available in the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean at Cap Leucate , just 30 minutes away.
The peaks of the Pyrenees rise dramatically in the south and a range of sports activities are available in the alpine resorts within striking reach of the cottage. Championship golf courses , floodlit tennis courts, horse-riding and sailing are all readily available. The corbiere hills are criss-crossed by lovely walks for every level, often with magnificent views to the foothills of the Pyrenees.

"Quality not as good as expected"
On arrival someone came to welcome us and make sure every thing was ok. The internet wasn't working , our calls to the owner were returned promptly, but we had to resolve the internet problem ourselves. There was no sign or name on the house, and no clear photo of the house on the website or literature so we had trouble finding it. The property itself had beautiful views and was warm even in January, but the were some problems. The very steep staircase wasn't mentioned, and for pensioners it would be difficult. The general state of decoration and finish was a bit tired, compared to the representations. The thermostat of the water heater was set so high that it had to be turned on and off manually. The satellite box, DVD & TV had to be connected up by my husband (a non technical person would have problems) In order to use the garage under the house, your car would have to be very small. Durban is very nice and the house is ideally situated, but the shared amenities described in the infomation, are just municipal facilities. ie. swimming pool, tennis court. It was a good location for visiting the sea and Spain and vineyards etc.
Thankyou for your review of our Cottage We are glad you enjoyed the fabulous views and that the weather was kind for you and your family in mid-winter. Also thank you for your lovely comments about the village of Durban, which is not at it's busiest in January. My understanding in relation to the internet was that this was an issue caused by French Telecom and the problem was resolved promptly. We are sorry that you had difficulties finding the property and have now made amendments to our comprehensive information pack. The stair case is referred to on the website as possibly being unsuitable for elderly guests and children. We always make sure that prospective guests are made aware in any event. We always planned to repaint the cottage during the off season but unfortunately this fell after your stay. We are grateful for your comprehensive feedback Many thanks again and hope to see you next year best wishes Alex

"A good base from which to explore Languedoc"
We spent an enjoyable week in Villa Belle Vue, situated in a peaceful village in the Corbieres mountains. The house had everything we needed, however with three seventy plus year olds in the party the two flights of steep stairs, with only one toilet on the ground floor, were a little difficult to negotiate. We enjoyed the view from the terrace and the good food and wine of the region. We would go there again.
Thank you for your review, we appreciate that you took the time to let us know about how you enjoyed your stay in Residence Belle Vue. Hopefully you come and stay again this year. Also glad to see that you managed with the stairs which can be tricky best wishes Alex
