The Perth and Kinross region

Situated in the very heart of Scotland, Perthshire represents the perfect place to find all that you expect of a great Scottish holiday. Most of Perthshire is little more than one hour by road or rail from Glasgow or Edinburgh, but a world apart.

Towns and places to visit in Perthshire include Aberfeldy, Loch Tay and Glen Lyon, Auchterarder, Gleneagles and the Ochils, Blairgowrie and East Perthshire, Crieff, Comrie and Strathearn, Dunkeld and Birnam, Kinross-shire and Loch Leven, the Fair City of Perth, Pitlochry and Highland Perthshire, and some of the most scenic Scottish glens.

Take a walk in Perthshire this spring and summer and discover why this beautiful region is known as ‘Big Tree Country’, home of the tallest trees, widest conifer and tallest hedge in Britain.

Use some of the 250 miles of waymarked paths to get to the Roman camps, medieval castles and whisky distilleries where you can spend a great day out discovering all about the detailed history.

Venture into the hills and mountains of the Cairngorms National Park in Highland Perthshire to see the wildlife - head out with a guide to learn more about the animals and see the best sights.

Once you’ve soaked up the stunning scenery of outdoor Perthshire, head into the city to find shops, cafes, restaurants, art galleries and theatres. Framed by two grand public parks and the striking Tay Street promenade, Perth is a lovely city offering the best in shopping, nightlife and culture.

Enjoy a number of exciting activities in Perthshire from gorge walking and fishing to pony trekking and sphereing.

Tucked away in the heart of central Perthshire, you will discover the Victorian village of Birnam and the picturesque cathedral town of Dunkeld resting on opposite banks of the River Tay.

All local amenities are within walking distance from the house. A few highlights are listed below....

Shopping - Local shops in Dunkeld include a butchers, bakers, delicatessen, newsagent, Post Office, Co-op store and some lovely gift/clothes shops.

Eating and drinking - Dunkeld offers many different places to eat out and drink from cosy cafes to characterful live music pubs and fine dining at the local hotels and restaurants.

Historical & Cultural Attractions - Dunkeld Cathedral

Birnam Arts Centre and Beatrix Potter exhibition. The centre offers an exciting events programme of music, theatre, comedy and dance.

Wildlife - Wildlife is abundant, with many birds of prey living in the area and wild deer roaming the fields and our front garden!

The osprey nesting site is at Loch of the Lowes, only 2 miles away.

A good selection of books, maps and leaflets is available at the house for plenty more ideas!

Dunkeld is a fantastic location to explore central Scotland and other nearby towns of interest such as Pitlochry and Aberfeldy are easily reached where there are many more things to see and do.

"Tardis like little gem"

We stayed in Glen Carra with some friends and were amazed by the space inside. It has been tastefully remodelled with large dining kitchen and lounge and is kitted out with everything needed for your stay. For its size Dunkeld offers a great selection of shops and eateries and Perthshire beyond always has lots of things to see and do. A great house and I am sure we will be back again sometime.

Thanks for the review and comments. It is a bit of a Tardis like property, especially the double bedrooms upstairs which would put many modern properties to shame! Glen

"Marvellous home making a wonderful holiday!"

We were in the house with our 4 children and another couple, filling all 4 bedrooms. There was plenty of room and it is altogether a lovely home. Lovely garden, nice and warm in the cold, nice big front room, good sized kitchen that is nicely equipped, strong and powerful showers, all set in a lovely village. Our children enjoyed the Wii and a nice selection of DVDs for adults and families. There is over 40 miles of walking paths literally outside the front door. Dunkeld is a very nice wee village with nice shops, unique cafes, grocery store & a fantastic cathedral. We love Perthshire and Dunkeld, and staying in this home made the trip absolutely fantastic. Would definitely recommend it to others and hope to return next year. Kind and helpful owners and everything thought through. The only small niggle for us was that the kitchen lighting seemed a bit dim/low for the dark autumn nights.

Thanks for the review, really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay!

"The house was fabulous and we wish we could have stayed longer!!"

This was the most comfortable house I have ever stayed in. The wood burning fire was fabulous especially with the cold nights. Everyone was catered for especially my 6 month old boy who loved the garden and all the space to play in. There was nothing you had not thought about for your guests and would recommend this beautiful house to anyone

We are delighted to hear you enjoyed the house, your stay, and the area so much. Thank you for booking with us and leaving a kind review! We look forward to welcoming you back! Liz and Glen

"A beautiful house, in a lovely location."

This is a lovely house, where the owners have thought of everything you might need. This helps you to feel at home immediately, and makes it muh easier if travelling with small children, like we were. Dunkeld is beautiful too, and within less than a minute's walk. Communication with the owners was particularly easy, both before and during our stay. We will definitely be back!

Many thanks for booking with us. We are glad you noticed and appreciate all the details. We do keep adding to and improving/ refreshing the house so hopefully you will notice a few changes when you come again! Thanks also for taking the time to review. Glen and Liz

"A wonderful, spacious family home, excellent location and superb touches"

We had a lovely family weekend. The Glen Carra has room for everyone in this superb house. Liz and Glen have thought of everything. Quality from start to finish.

Thanks for the kind review. We have put so much work into the house (and still do so) and it's great that you have commented on this. We do try to keep on adding to it with the children's play house and slide being among the latest new items in addition to the sun deck that was built early this year. We look forward to welcoming you back! Liz and Glen

"great location ,well equipped and nicely designed modern house on the edge of beautiful countryside"

We arrived to find a lovely clean ,well equipped house -all 6 women loved exploring the house & commenting on the various design features especially the pebble door knobs. Dunkeld is a great location for walks to Birnam (past huge ancient trees),The Hermtage ( waterfalls) and past the Cathedral along the river to Dunkeld House passing even more specimen trees.Once a month there is a guided countryside ranger walk to Loch of Lowe where we saw the ospreys nesting & red squirrels .Perth is very close by with a good theatre & Art gallery. There are many more things to do .This is just our choice for a week's visit. I'm very sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

Thanks for the review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Also many thanks for leaving the property in such a tidy manner, this is much appreciated....and noted for the next time you stay! Glen and Liz

"Beautiful house and village"

We had a fantastic time at Glen Carra. The house is large and beautifully presented. It has everything and more. The beds were very comfortable and the shower rooms were modern and had fantastic powerful showers. The garden was lovely with a nice decking seating area. Glen the owner was fantastic to deal with. His communication skills are excellent and he was great with ideas and advice. Dunkeld itself is a lovely friendly place and we had a very enjoyable time. The house is situated in a quiet private area with plenty of parking. The house is only a 2 min walk to the lovely village. Thanks so much. I would highly recommend this house to everyone.

We are really glad you enjoyed your stay and made use of the new deck in the back garden. The village itself is a wonderful place to visit and we always find it very relaxing, especially not having to take a car anywhere as it is all on your doorstep. Thanks for the lovely review. Glen and Liz

"Fantastic House. Have stayed on more than one occasion. Will definitely be going in 2013 again"

Really lovely house. Well appointed throughout with everything you need for a relaxed stay. Great base for walking / cycling. Always plenty of hot water and beds really comfy. Have stayed there a few times now and have always found it in an immaculate condition. The only thing is that there are only 6 dining chairs, but the owner has said they are looking to but a couple more. The times I have stayed we have had 7 or 8 adults and while we have had dinner out, breakfast time included the chairs from the bedroom. This however is the ONLY slight negative I could say about this property - and I am really FUSSY!!

Thanks for the review and feedback. We really do appreciate your repeat bookings and look forward to having you back again.....and you will find we have all 8 dining chairs the next time too! Glen and Liz

"Warm, cosy, clean and spacious - what more do you want!!?!!"

Great place with four good sized bedrooms, 2 on-suite. really clean and warm with wood burning stove for extra cosy evenings. A great place to stay in a lovely location.

Thanks for the review. Sitting round the wood burning stove seems to be a common pastime in Glen Carra! Liz and Glen

"Home away from home"

A fantastic retreat from the city and a really well stocked house. The owners have obviously thought of everything one needs when away from home with a wii and DVD's for the kids to a wood burning stove to gather around when it gets dark. (The house was soooo warm and cosy) Would recommend to everyone.

Thanks for reviewing. We've tried hard to make sure we cater for everyone that stays at Glen Carra. The Wii games console was meant for the older children on rainy days....but adults are allowed a go too! L&G
