Set in 16 stunning acres of woods and hills adjoining Wimbleball Lake within Exmoor national Park, we are perfectly placed for activity holidays or for soaking up the exquisite secluded grandeur of Exmoor and the beautiful North Devon coast.

The Barn enjoys magnificent views across hills, woods and valleys. It is a comprehensively-equipped, 4-Star Gold, eco-friendly, centrally-heated property accommodating 8 guests + cots in four bedrooms (two en-suite doubles, a twin and an additional superking, which can be converted to a twin) and an additional family bathroom. The adjoining Barn Owl Cottage sleeps 5 in a double, a twin and a single, and has 2 bathrooms. The properties can be rented separately or together.

There is also a hot tub, a badminton court and table-tennis on site, and a painting studio for hire.

Rainsbury House is the ideal place to recharge your batteries and relax. This is a heavenly spot where only the sound of sheep and the birds dominate the soundscape.

Exmoor National Park is Europe's first International Dark Sky Reserve and our land, adjoining the most secluded corner of Wimbleball Lake, is the prime place on Exmoor to star gaze.

We are situated on the secluded tip of the Upton Arm of Wimbleball Lake, surrounded by breathtaking hills, woods and river valleys full of wildlife (including otters on the Haddeo River that runs through our land).

However, If it is a full-on activity holiday you are looking for, then we have that on our doorstep too, with the Wimbleball Activity Centre offering bike hire, fly fishing, sailing, kayaking, indoor climbing wall, archery, high wire assault course and zorba balls on the lake. For walkers, we have amazing woodland and moorland walks straight out of your front door as well as coastal walks and beaches just a short drive away (11 miles).

Exmoor National Park is a magnet for artists and photographers. We have converted the stables (the original 250-year-old farmhouse) into a stunning centrally-heated artists studio for hire and from which we run courses with professional tutors.

To boost our Eco credentials, we installed a large, Austrian wood pellet boiler which provides your central heating & hot water.

DURING PERIODS OF PEAK DEMAND (school holidays, Christmas, New Year etc), we can only accept short stay bookings 2 weeks prior to arrival. Please contact us directly for details.

Location description from owner

The England region

Rainsbury House sits in 16 acres on the edge of Wimbleball Lake and within Exmoor National Park. While we live in a very rural area on the Somerset/Devon boarder, we are easily accessible, 45 minutes off the M5. We are 6 miles east of the very pretty market town of Dulverton, and 19 miles west of Taunton in Somerset. We are surrounded by hills and woodland with stunning rivers cutting through exquisitely beautiful valleys. The Haddeo River runs through our land. This is perfect country for outdoor pursuits. Wimbleball Lake on our doorstep has wonderful native woodland packed with a stunning variety of native and migrating birds as well as birds of prey, deer, badgers, foxes and otters. It is idyllic country for hiking, cycling and horse riding. The lake also offers a wealth of activities including sailing, kayaking, fly fishing, zip wires/assault course, zorba balls on the lake itself and raft building. Also close by are a plethora of other activities such as golfing, quad biking, shooting (We offer combined fly fishing and clay shooting courses on request) coastal walks and surfing on astonishingly beautiful beaches. There is also a host of local attractions and places to visit. We recommend the National Trust Dunster Castle, and the village of Dunster itself, which is a delight. Also, worth visiting are the very pretty seaside villages of Porlock, Linton and Lynmouth. The West Somerset Steam Train from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead is a wonderful day out for adults and children.

While we are just 11 miles from the wild and rugged North Somerset/Devon coast, we are also close enough for a visit to the South Devon and Dorset coastlines. The cathedral city of Exeter is just an hours drive away.

Dulverton

Our nearest pub, the Lowtrow Cross Inn, is just a mile away. It is friendly and offers good pub grub, as does The George in Brompton Regis, 4 miles away. Dulverton has a number of great restaurants, pubs and tea rooms, the best including Woods Bar, Tantivity, The Bridge and the Thai restaurant, Tongdam. For shopping for provisions, Dulverton has a good Co-Op, but Tiverton, 11 miles away, has big Morrisons and Tesco stores. Tescos will deliver online orders, as will Sainsburys and Waitrose (we are happy to unpack your shopping for your before you arrive).

While we are definitely far from the madding crowd here, there is a great deal to see, do and explore; certainly enough for one lifetime.
