Description from owner

Description

Welcome to your Dublin home from home! We'd like to invite you to make yourself at home in our guest bedroom for two.

Our shared apartment which we love to share with our guests from around the world, is part of a converted eighteenth century mill complex, and is furnished with our family antiques and treasures, which date from the English Jacobean period onwards, and at the end of your Dublin day, a great pleasure awaits you - a soak in our large jacuzzi bath.

When you are staying with us in our sunny south facing apartment, you will feel like you're in the middle of the countryside, as you will enjoy panoramic views across the River Liffey Weir and the open parkland of Dublin's War Memorial Gardens and the Phoenix Park, whilst still being only one mile from Dublin's buzzing City Centre. Perhaps that's why we've even hosted Olympic runners in training in our homestay. It also has high speed WIFI. Breakfast is included in the price.

Your room has a single day bed that can pull out to form a king sized bed, large desk, WIFI, safe, alarm, CD radio, TV/DVD, we also offer free parking in the park and safe bicycle storage. It is approximately 8.5 x 11 feet big.

You will find that you are a mere 5 minute walk from top tourist attractions Kilmainham Gaol, Irish Museum of Modern Art and 15 minutes walk to the Guinness Brewery. You can also go for long walks up the river to the historic village of Chapelizod for a pub lunch or into the Phoenix Park, as we often do, or for a long walk or run.You will be staying roughly 1 mile from the city centre which is a 5 minute bus ride, a 10 minute cycle or 40 minute walk away. You are on multiple bus routes, or 18 minutes walk from the red LUAS tram/ main airport bus 747/national rail station at Heuston which serves Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Limerick lines. From Heuston you take the tram into the city in 5 minutes, or you can cycle from us into the city in 15 minutes, if you want to live like a local! You are also 8 minutes from the M50/N4 junction (Dublin's main ring road) by car and 25 minutes drive from the airport. There is free parking in the park beside our home. All utility bills are included, except electricity for stays of over 10 days.

A simple 'help yourself' breakfast of cereal, tea, coffee, breads and jam is provided and after this we ask that you only use the kitchen to prepare simple cold snacks or for drinks, unless we have made other arrangements together. On occasion for instance, Alice has cooked hot lunches or dinners for our guests for €8 for lunch or €12 for dinner.

We, your host couple who also live in the other bedroom, are a newly married couple in our 30s from Dublin. Radek is originally from the Czech Republic and is a potter who loves to work with porcelain. . Alice is a theatre and opera director with Irish/English/American heritage who runs her own company in Dublin , whose work includes literary audio walks of James Joyce's Dublin, children's theatre workshops and dinner theatre. She is also a qualified cook and loves to experiment with all the foods of the world and cook for our guests! In our spare time we love all things cultural and are very involved in the Dublin arts world and actually met by chance in a Dublin art gallery. We also enjoy hillwalking, movies, fine living, fun times and above all travel!Between us we must have traveled 50 countries, and together have traveled from Prague to Istanbul together by train, from Gambia to Mali, all over Ireland and the Czech Republic, and for our recent honeymoon went around Italy with home stays and enjoyed six wonderful stays with Italian families. So we know both what it is to host and to be a guest on home sharing sites like Holiday Lettings!

We may also be able to offer you individual pottery or cookery classes with us during your stay, and you're also very welcome to visit Radek's pottery in Balbriggan and to learn how pottery is made. Thanks for reading our listing and we hope to welcome you to our home and city soon. When you inquire about staying with us we'd love to hear more about you too.

Location description from owner

The Province of Leinster region

Dublin is Irelands fun and buzzing capital, a place of culture, history and literature. Even better your two hosts are a potter and a theatre director who would love to share their home and city with you.

Dublin

Islandbridge is an area of outstanding natural beauty and forms part of Dulblins extensive parklands 1 mile from Temple Bar and the city centre. Thanks to Charles II's desire for deer hunting parks Dublin has the largest enclosed park in Europe. Today this means you can take a four hour hike around our area through the park and still be in the city. Many of our guests love to do just this stopping for lunch and a pint of beer in the Norman village of Chapelizod on the way. Our part of the park is along the River Liffey and the apartment block is a converted eighteenth century mill on an island in the middle of the river. The Museum of Modern Art and Kilmainham Gaol where the 1916 rising leaders were imprisoned and executed are also within a 5 minute walk of the property. We are also 15 minutes walk away from Heuston train station from where you take mainline trains to Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Galway or Kerry. The airport bus also terminates here and you can take a tram into the city from here too.

With a car you can be in the Wicklow Mountains within 30 minutes from our home or on Dublin's ring road in under 10 minutes which is really helpful. The airport is a 25 minute drive away.
