Location description from owner

The Loch Ness region

Lewiston is a perfect walking, mountain biking and touring base, being close to the world famous Loch Ness and in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. There is also an excellent horse riding stables nearby, suitable for both beginners and experienced riders.

The City of Inverness is 15 miles away with shopping centres, cinema, tours and many other tourist attractions - see the official Inverness website for more information.

Crossroads Cottage is just half mile from the village of Drumnadrochit (with shops, a post office, hotel, restaurants, pubs, and the Loch Ness visitor Centre) and only 1 mile from Urquhart Castle - one of the top visitor attractions in Scotland overlooking Loch Ness, with it's own exhibition and interpretation centre. It is only about three quarters of a mile walk to the shores of Loch Ness for a picnic and some Nessie spotting in the famous Urquhart Bay!! Visit this excellent Drumnadrochit & Loch Ness website for details of the area.

There are also a number of high and low level circular hillwalks right from the cottage's front door. The Great Glen Way, the 73 mile long distance path from Fort William to Inverness, passes close to the cottage. This allows visitors to explore sections of it and perhaps complete it in stages if return transport is organised. Glen Affric is just a half hour drive away a veritable playground for serious Scottish Mountain walking.

Drumnadrochit

Lewiston is just 1 hours drive from the famous West Coast hub of Fort William (all facilities) and Ben Nevis (the highest mountain in the UK). Here is access to Mull and Mallaig (with car ferry to the Isle of Skye) - and don't miss the world famous Fort William to Mallaig steam train journey of Harry Potter Fame!! From Fort William it is also a short drive to scenic Glencoe, Oban and Mull of Kintyre.

From Lewiston heading north west, you can access the breathtaking wilderness areas to the north such as Torridon, Gairloch, Poolewe, Ullapool, Lochinver, Kinlochbervie and Durness, these being some of the remotest and unspoilt areas of Europe and boasting some of the finest beaches and hill walking areas in the country.

“Excellent Cottage, Clean and Awesome!”

Reviewed 19 Mar 2017

Beautiful Cottage tucked away not far from loch ness in the Highlands, I couldn't have asked for anything more, we wanted to get away from the world for a week and we definitely did! It was set in a stunning location and 10 minutes away from the famous lock ness. We got there and it was a little small but for two people it was more than enough!. Enjoyed having all the modern accessories like super fast WiFi, flat screen TVs and even a soundbar?! We enjoyed our stay very much and as a result we have already got friends and family members ready to book up for this year and the next. Amazing. 5*

Owner's reply: Robert thank you for your excellent review following your recent stay. We are delighted that the cottage features surpassed your expectations but would always welcome ideas for new facilities we could add. Thank you also for recommending us and we hope to welcome you back sometime in the future.

“Excellent again”

Return visit and thoroughly enjoyed our stay yet again. Central in the Highlands so managed to visit a lot of lovely places. Slept like a baby every night.

“Relaxing break in a cosy cottage”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2016

We are just back from a week in the cottage. We haven't slept so well for ages, a really comfy king size bed in a peaceful wee cottage. The cottage has everything you need, including towels and kitchen bits and pieces. The locals are so friendly and even the dog next door to the cottage is lovely once you get to know her. Our dog had an absolute ball, swimming and long walks in the surrounding area every day. Such a relaxing, scenic break, can highly recommend.

“Delightful Cottage in an ideal location.”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2012

Crossroads Cottage was everything we could have hoped for. Immaculate conditions within the cottage and an ideal base from which to explore the stunning surrounding area. This cottage was within both walking and driving distances from some of the most spectacular views you would find anywhere. The owners were helpful and considerate and left a lovely bottle of bubbly for us to enjoy. We would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage and hope to return some day soon.

Owner's reply: We are delighted with your review and it is great to know that we have done it right. Thank you for taking the time to comment which will help potential future guests make up their mind. Hope to welcome you to Crossroads in the future!
