We have tried hard to provide most things you might need, including : Free fast Wifi, all bed linen, towels, cot, high chair, stair gates, a very well equipped kitchen ( a pet hate of mine is going on holiday to discover there is nothing but a few blunt knives), washer dryer, iron and ironing board and a new Smart TV with free Netflix. Our aim is to make the cottage comfortable, with many modern amenities, and yet retain the original character. If you like St Ives as much as we do then we hope that our cottage is an ideal base to enjoy a great holiday in one of the best seaside towns anywhere !
Location description from owner
The England region
St Ives is a lovely fishing village which both retains its traditional character yet has many many restaurants, galleries, craft shops and kiosks selling Cornish ice cream,as well as pasties !
Not only great in Summer, St Ives has loads to offer all year round, a winter morning walk in the wind along the front watching the 'big seas' and dodging the odd wave that comes over the harbour wall followed by a drink in a cafe or pub is great fun !
The Cornish Riviera has so much to offer, great walks, amazing scenery, an abundance of wildlife ( seals are regular visitors to the Harbour and you can take a boat ride to see 100's of seals basking in the sun, you may even see dolphins), lots of attractions like Flambards theme park or just somewhere to get away from the rat race.
The St Ives school of art was home to Barbara Hepworth,Bernard Leach and now has the famous Tate St Ives.
Nearby attractions include country houses with splendid gardens,The Minack open air theatre,Flambards theme park,Lands end and some great coastal path walks.
Downalong is a warren of windy cobbled streets in the (in my opinion) best bit of St Ives. The cottages were mainly fisherman's houses and retain much character. Love lane, Rose Lane, Fish Street ,Teetotal street and even Virgin Street are all nearby street names.
Downalong is mid way between the 3 main beaches and close to the shops, pubs and restaurants.
No hard walk up the hill after your day in the town or on the beach back to your accommodation if you stay in Downalong !

- Very Good
Absolutely first class cottage, everything needed for a great stay. 2 minuites from all 3 beaches & Fore St for shopping. Derek could not have been more helpful with location & hints & tips, and the scones/clotted cream a grateful treat on arrival. would recommend without hesitation!
“Great Place in Great Location”
This little place was just what we needed for a short get away to St Ives. The booking process was simple and straightforward. The cottage is on the Digey which is a tight little street round the corner from the Tate and I would suggest unloading at the end of the street rather than driving up to avoid blocking the street or scratching your wing mirrors!! (Just saying!). The cottage was perfect for us (a couple with two small dogs) and its location is pretty much perfect. Everything was spotless when we arrived, and the place is well equipped with full kitchen, Freeview, Netflix and Wi-Fi plus a whole load of board games and DVDs. We will definitely be back.
“Relaxing, chilled out start to New Year”
We booked 5 days away after a busy year and Christmas period. The cottage was lovely, like 'home from home'. Very central and extremely well equipped. Derek was extremely helpful giving excellent driving and parking instructions.
“A delightful cottage in an amazing location!”
So often the description doesn't match up to what greets you as you open the door, but on this occasion the cottage certainly lived up to expectation. It was spotless, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. Everything that you could possibly want was there...even including buckets, spades and fishing nets! We could have cooked in the well equipped kitchen, but with so many lovely restaurants virtually on the doorstep, the most we did was use the kettle and toaster! Even that could have been avoided by nipping down the road to the bakers every morning....the smell of those freshly baked cakes and breads was soooo tempting! Thank goodness it was a 2 minute walk away...any nearer and the smell would have tempted me in far too often! It's been many years since I last visited St Ives, and I can well remember the traffic queueing into the town, so we expected it to be buzzing, which it certainly was on the Sunday afternoon when we arrived. Quite rightly so as the surrounding beaches are fabulous and plentiful. We were accompanied by my 6 year old Springer Spaniel, and whilst dogs aren't allowed EVERYWHERE, they are in fact very well catered for as you can see in the photos that hopefully will accompany this revue. I quite like a bit of shopping....so I was very happy too. There is a very nice mix of high end names as well as small boutiques and craft stores, and galleries displaying local art. My partner hadn't been to this area before and was stunned by its beauty, and just how much was available to visit within the locality. I had remembered St Ives as being very quaint, and to be honest I had forgotten just how pretty it is, and how narrow some of the streets are. Before we set off I had studied the map of the town, which didn't really help. Neither did my satnav because we didn't believe that we could really turn into some of the streets that it was directing us down! We soon got the hang of the one way system though, and the Long Stay car parks on the edge of town have I'm sure taken some of the pressure of the car parks nearer to the cottage. Porthmeor Square is literally just a few yards from Barefoot cottage. We often used a Long Stay car park situated behind The Tate, and valued both the views, and the extra couple of minutes walk ( to burn off the excessive calorie intake)...although we did fight over who was going to have the dog to pull us back up the hill! The Island and Porthmeor weren't such a good gym workout! The Digey is such a brilliant location, and Barefoot stands out as being one of the best cottages in the street. We would happily return, especially if we could have the same weather as we had too. Why go abroad when you can have clear blue skies like that at home....and it did feel like home!
“We had a great time in the holyday cottage.”
Barefoot cottage is very cosy and decorated with a lot of taste. The bedrooms are very nice and the kitchen ist very well equipped. The bathroom is rather tiny but sufficient. The cottage is very close to the waterfront and the beach and that makes it the perfect place for a small family!
“Fabulous little cornish gem”
Lovely little cottage, all the home comforts, and the location is superb.. 6 second walk to portmeor beach and 12 seconds walk to the harbour. Very comfortable beds, free wifi, beautifully decorated in keeping with the seaside location. The owners have great communication and offer superb assistance. Also it was nice being welcomed with a cream tea and hot beverage supplies... We will be returning ....
“A great week”
First holiday with our 7 month old baby, and couldn't have been more ideal. 20 seconds walk from a beautiful sandy beach, tiny fisherman's cottage full of character and charm, and my favourite town in the country. The dog was also welcome. The cottage is located in one of the best streets in St Ives (The Digey), had everything we needed and was warm on those cold February nights. If you get a chance, visit The Gurnards Head, a quirky country pub on the road to St Just. Great food, warm welcome and lovely ales, possibly my favourite pub in the country.
“Relax in St Ives”
We have been going to St Ives every Feb with a large family group for many years. It has a unique combination of old world charm good food and great coastal walks. This year we were only 4 people so went for a smaller fisherman's cottage in the Digey. The house is ideally situated between the beach and town both are only minutes walk away. Inside it is compact and rustic, with a galley kitchen and small lounge downstairs, and 2 beds upstairs, with almost everything you want right to hand. The beds are really comfortable and being 6'2 it's great to have a king size, looks like they are new as well. The bathroom is tiny, but everything is there (would have liked a bit of pressure on the shower) and it works for a short break.
“All the magic of St Ives on your doorstep.”
Lovely cottage in excellent condition. One minute walk to the beach and two minutes to the shops. Well furnished and equipped with everything that we required. I would have no reservations about staying there again.
“Lovely Cottage, Perfect Location!”
Barefoot, 21 The Digey is a lovey little fishermans cottage less than a minute from Porthmeor beach and the same the other way to Fore Street and the Harbour, the location couldn't be better. You can't park on The Digey itself, but you can pull up to the cottage to unload / load up and then go and park. We parked in Barnoon car park which is close by, it cost £35 for the week which we thought was quite reasonable. The cottage was a pleasure to stay in and Derek makes the booking process very easy, his communication is very good and he provides useful information about navigating St Ives and where to park etc. We would definately stay at this cottage again.
