Iceland is greener than you think. People always say those Vikings were pulling a fast one when they called us Iceland and not Greenland but now we have even greater reason than ever to be called Green Iceland! Over 70% of our total energy consumption is from hydro- and geothermal sources and Reykjavik was the site for the world's first commercial hydrogen refueling station, opened in 2003. Continually looking for the next big thing, we are extending Iceland's green credentials from land to water, with Reykjavik whale-watching company - 'Elding – adventure at sea' unveiling the first commercial vessel to trial the use of hydrogen in April. Shame it isn't helium, we could have had some macho sailors with high- pitched voices.

Further details indoors

Besides hiking and mountain biking, you can also go fishing on Lake Þingvallavatn (Iceland's largest lake), visit Þingvellir National Park, tour the Hengill geothermal power plant and go horseback riding

Location description from owner

The Capital Region

In this location you are in a walking distance to everything you will possibly need or want to see in the city. The nearest supermarket you can see from the entrance door, another cheaper is just few min walk away. The best Asian restaurant in town and the colorful houses everyone stops to take photos of, are opposite. You will be surprised and impressed that such a small capital city has so much to offer in the way of culture, arts and activities. Whilst the downtown area of Reykjavík has the highest concentration of cultural institutions, it also has an extraordinary number of tour operators offering. What makes Iceland stand out as a venue is its unique natural beauty and absence of pollution. Dramatic volcano and glacier scenery-and conversely, action packed incentives are there waiting to be enjoyed by visitors. Reykjavík, the capital city is next door to nature. Iceland is only about a 3-hour flight from most European cities and 5 hours from the North American Eastern seaboard. From Reykjavík you can fly to many towns and tourist attractions around the country, such as Akureyri, the capital of the north. LEISURE; Icelanders work hard - they average one of the longest working days in Europe - but they also play hard. Weekends in downtown Reykjavík are a special experience. You will find many opportunities to enjoy fine food and entertainment.

Down town

The area has many interesting sights within walking distance, for example: Laugavegur, shopping street; Hallgrimskirkja, Iceland's tallest church; Kjarvalsstadir, museum/gallery; Asmundarsafn, sculpture museum; Laugardalur, valley; a seaside walking path; and many more... Within 2 minutes walking distance you will also find a lovely cafe, a delicious pizzeria, a supermarkets nearby and a free car parking is behind the house. If it’s good enough for multi-talented Quentin Tarantino, then it must be worth shouting about. The man behind cult films such as Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction can’t get enough of Iceland. ‘The air, the water, the people, the pools and everything is just too good to be true. I have been wanting to go, ever since I heard that beauty queens and supermodels work at McDonalds‘ says Tarantino. And as if the king of cool did not have enough strings to his bow, he can now add viking to writer, director, producer and actor:‘I was made an honorary Viking at Viking Village while in Iceland. My Icelandic name is Quentin Conniesson, I might start to use it from now on. I might even shoot a movie about the Vikings soon since I’m fascinated by them’ (Quentin Tarantino Morgunblaðið, November 2005)
