Historic Buildings

Doune Castle: Built in the 14th century, Doune Castle is well worth a visit. Not only does it have one of the best preserved great halls in Scotland it is famous as the backdrop in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Stirling Castle – Stirling Castle is only a few miles from Doune.

Dunblane Cathedral -  Close toDoune is the Cathedral City of Dunblane. The cathedral dates back to the 12th century.
Wallace Monument – built in the recent past to celebrate one of Scotland's hero's, the Wallace Monument just outside Stirling provides a great viewpoint over the Forth Valley.

Inchmahome Priory – Set in the Lake of Menteith, the 13th century priory is a wonderful place to visit. Take the small boat out to the island where Mary Queen of Scots sought refuge. Nearby restaurant and pub overlooks the only lake (not a loch) in Scotland.

Attractions:
Deanston Distillery: The distillery (just over the river in the adjoining village of Deanston) welcomes visitors.

Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park: Only a mile and a half fromDoune, the Safari park offers a great day out for families. It includes a variety of attractions and will entertain the kids for the whole day.

Brairlands Farm: In the summer months Briarlands Farm opens its doors to the public. It has a farm shop with home grown soft fruits and local produce combined with an adventure playground aimed at younger children. Another good day out for the family. It is only 2 miles from Doune (follow the signs for the Safari Park)

Argaty Red Kites: Again, only a mile and a half from Doune there is the Argaty

Outdoor Activities
In Doune, you are on the doorstep of Loch Lomond and the TrossachsNational Park. There are a huge number of activities. If you want an active holiday there is walking, climbing, cycling (road or mountain bike), water sports (sailing, canoeing, etc), shooting, fishing, golf and much, much more to chose from.

The nearby locations include the Lochs (for example Loch Vennacar, Loch Ard, Loch Katrine and Loch Lubnaig). Loch Lomond is not too far either.

Rder Cup

“Excellent location, well equipped and quiet”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2013

The apartment is very spacious, with 2 bathrooms and the kitchen well equipped. It's also very quiet even if it's located on the main street and above the Buttercup café, since it usually closes around 5 p.m. The only thing missing, especially for foreign travellers is the wi-fi connection. The price is very competitive considering the value of the apartment. Should we come back to Scotland we surely will stop again at this apartment and maybe stay a couple of days more, since many turistic sites are very near Doune.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the great feedback and I am really glad you enjoyed the break. Taking on board your comments about WiFi, we are looking into setting up WiFi access and we will update our listings once it is up and running. Thanks, Una.
