The kitchen is well equipped and there is a television, dvd player and playstation available for when the weather is poor. There is an iPod/iPhone docking station and numerous indoor and outdoor games. We also have a small separate utility room which provides storage for a tumble dryer and sun loungers.

Please note, as the bedrooms are built into the eaves there is limited headspace upstairs and a steep staircase, so we recommend that for people with limited mobility this may not be the ideal environment for them.

We also provide a high chair and travel cot for very young children and wifi is available.

Location description from owner

The Pays de la Loire region

Situated on the border of the Poitou Charente and the Loire Valley, the region is characterised by sunflowers and vineyards that stretch across the landscape. There is a market somewhere every day apart from Sunday where you will find local produce for sale, from cheese, charcuterie and vegetables to handmade crafts. There are numerous chateaux within easy driving distance, such as Saumur, Brissac Quince and Azay-La-Rideau and the home of Leonardo Da Vinci at Amboise where many of his inventions have been recreated. There are many other interesting places to visit, such as a great zoo at Doue La Fontaine, troglodyte villages and museums - the Tank museum at Saumur is a good attraction for boys young and old! You are also not too far from the Vendee beaches and La Rochelle on the coast for a day by the sea. For adventure enthusiasts Futuroscope in Poiters and the adventure park at Chantemerle are not too distant and for those of lesser adventurous nature there is the Pescalis Fishing village at Moncoutant.

There are also many events throughout the summer that are worth visiting, such as the Puy Du Fou and other Son et lumiere attractions, and each village has a fete of some sort every year celebrating amongst other things jazz music, seafood and of course wine.

Doue-la-Fontaine

The house is about 30 minutes drive from Saumur in an area that is peaceful and the pace of life slower. Local people are friendly and helpful and there is always time to sit in a local cafe or bar for a drink or bite to eat in the nearby towns of Vihiers and Doue La Fontaine. There are many local winemakers offering good quality wines at low prices. The Rose d'Anjou is a local speciality and is a great drink when fresh from the fridge on a hot summer's day. Summers are hot, with long days of cloudless skies, while winters tend to be cool and wet - not unlike an English winter only shorter! For those cooler days we have wood burning stoves in both the kitchen and living room to keep you cosy and warm.
The main towns and cities, such as Saumur and Angers offer lots of opportunities to shop and are full of good quality places to eat and drink. The towns are easy to find your way around and roads are often empty of vehicles, save a tractor or two at rush hour.
