Description

Overlooking the beach the house is of an attractive neo- Breton style which has been extensively renovated and beautifully refurbished by an architect designer. Lovely bathrooms and kitchen and the house is beautifully equipped, It is perfectly situated for family holidays, being at the end of a private road, with views of the beach which is an 8 minute walk away. The town of Douarnenez is a few minutes drive away, with a good variety of restaurants and shops, and a large intermarche is a few minutes drive away.

The house is perfect for 2 families or groups holidaying together and with two sitting rooms enabling children and adults to have their own space . There is no lawned play area but there are 2 terraces and sea facing balcony for al fresco dining, fully equipped with furniture.

Location description from owner

The Brittany region

Douarnenez is a haven for sailors and fishermen and enjoys a mild climate. This area of Brittany is known as Cornouaille, whose capital is Quimper, a bustling thriving town. The coastline can be quite dramatic,La Torche being the rendevous for surfers whereas Cap Sizun provides a wild and magnificent setting for rare birds. there are many sandy beaches and pretty towns and villages to explore.

Douarnenez

The house overlooks the Bay of Douarnenez, Plage de Trezmalaouen a 3 km stretch of sand , being a 8 minute walk away. This is a popular beach for beginner surfers, before attempting the big waves at La Torche or Bai des Trepasse 30 minutes away ! The house is privateand peaceful situated at the end of a lane so there is no through traffic, yet the town of Douarnenez is only 4km away. Douarnenez can be divided into 3 parts- the Old Port , the main town and Port Rhu , where there is a maritime Museum. This is a popular area for sailing and Douarnenez has a strong history of fishing, being particularly famous for sardines ! Across the river is Treboul, once part of Douarnenez, where there are sandy beaches , a Spa , Thalassothermie, daily fish markets and twice weekly markets brimming with local produce- vegetables and fruit, seafood, oysters and the wonderful spider crabs ! At Treboul there are tennis courts and an indoor court close to the pretty beach Les Sables Blancs. Treboul has a sailing club and scuba diving school , and various cafes and restaurants bordering the marina. There is an abundance of good restaurants both in the town and in the neighbouring small towns and villages. The well known petit cite de characteure, Locronan is a short drive away, its cobbled streets lined with prettty shops and restaurants.Twenty minutes drive will take you to the capital of Finistere, Quimper, a pretty large town with a busy daily market and many interesting shops and restaurants as well as old churches and characterful streets. This area has a huge amount to offer for day trips- Pointe de Raz with its dramatic coastline, Benodet, famous for its marina and sailing, Pont L'Abbe and much more. The area is quite unspoilt with a marked lack of large hotels and commercial buildings and here one can really experience true Breton life .

“A stunning, salubrious retreat for that well-earned holiday and/or celebration”

Reviewed 19 Nov 2012

It was my 60th but, in truth, it could have been for any special family occasion. There were ten of us, six adults and four children, and the house was excellent, very well prepared/appointed/equipped etc - so spacious that we were never under anyone's feet, while close enough to be intimate in the family sense. Most of us knew the Douarnenez area but recent skiing and summer holidays have taken us much farther south (especially the Vendée) in recent years. Yet this short break, out of season, made us fall in love with Brittany all over again - it is, of course, so similar to our beloved homes in Cornwall after all. Douarnenez town may be a tad disappointing out of season (its summer hive of port/ports, sailing, boating and fishing activity, for us, is the main draw) but the nearby beaches are superb (at any time of the year) and close by places like Quimper, Locronan, Giulvenic, Concarneau, Pont l'Abbe, Benodet, Audienne et al are lovely and superb whatever the date or weather. We love the Vendée but we have fallen in love again with Brittany - and that, in no small part, is because of this homely, welcoming retreat, salubriously maintained by Vicky and Phil W and brought to life, on our arrival, by the delightful Karene. We cannot recommend this place/area enough. We went for a party but this homely abode is a celebration for all seasons and occasions. Enjoy!

“A perfect retreat”

This is a fantastic house if you want to get away from the crowds, but still have local amenities not too far away. As the property is at the end of a private road it is very quiet, apart from the sound of wildlife and the waves crashing on the shore. The views from the balcony are wonderful and it is just a short walk to the coast, with fantastic views from the coastal path. The house is very well equipped and the snooker table provided added entertainment, although sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine, watching the sun go down, was hard to beat. The owner, Vicky, was very helpful, as was Geraldine the housekeeper who gave us a warm welcome. We would definitely stay here again if we decide to holiday in this area. We have stayed in many houses in Brittany, but this was the best so far!

Thank you very much for your review. I am delighted you enjoyed your holiday here . It is always nice to hear that guests love it as much as we do ! I hope you may visit again . Vicky

“Top notch self-catering in beautiful setting”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2011

Have just returned from a week away here - eight members of family from three generations - and had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful, built into the hillside overlooking Douarnenez Bay, extremely well-equipped and comfortable. The basement containing a twin bedroom and large separate lounge including pool table, tv,dvd, wireless broadband was perfect for our teenagers, and other rooms very comfortable - beds are great and most rooms have a sea view. Beautifully designed, fab balcony leading off main lounge (coffee a.m, wine p.m!), plenty of parking and enough room for eight people to spread out and have a little down time if needed! Highly recommended. If you haven't been to this part of Brittany, go - and stay here!

A wonderfull house with "a room with a view" over the ocean! Sitting on the balcony - hearing the ocean - looking at the waves - you feel like a king and queen!
