Location description from owner

The Veneto region

Throughout history Venice has been a magnet for visitors of all kinds, from the early medieval merchants on whose fortunes this fabulous city was built, to the more recent artists and 'mere' tourists. The latter who have come in search of landmarks such as Piazza San Marco, the Bridge of Sighs, Rialto, museums, & the grand palazzos on the Grand Canal, have not been disappointed! In addition to the manifold delights of Venice, a day's trip to the neighbouring islands (Murano, Burano, Torchello...) is a must if you are here for more than a few days.

There are of course the attractions of the Veneto within easy traveling distance. From Santa Lucia, the railway station you have access to the nearby historic cities of Padua, Vicenza and Verona, which include Palladian Villas. There is also the ferry service nearby which can transport to neighbouring Croatia and the Istrian coast.

Dorsoduro

At the end of our lane is the magnificent Zattere promenade, where you can go for your evening stroll (passeggiata) along with the Venetians. Close by you will find the Accademia, Guggenheim and Punta della Dogana (Francois Pinault collection) galleries. La Salute (church) at the end of the Zattere marks the spot where the Grand Canal meets the Bacino di San Marco and there is a marvellous view to be had from this point.

Throughout the year there are the various pageants & festivals, one of the most famous being Carnavale in February. During May there is the Festa della Sensa to enjoy, while one of the most spectacular events happens in July with the Festa del Redentore, when a temporary bridge of barges is built across the Giudecca Canal. Of course there is always the annual Venice Festival and every two years the biennial...so much to see and do yet so little time!

“Wonderful apartment in a glorious area of Venice”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2015

We had the most wondeful stay in this apartment. The location on Zattere is wonderful for evening strolls and yet it is only a 5 minute walk to Academia bridge. The apartment has everything you could wish for and the booking process was especially smooth and worry free. We had a real sense of living like Venetians rather than tourists staying in an hotel. This holiday home is an absolute gem.

“Secret Escape in Venice”

Reviewed 13 Apr 2015

We had a great stay at Ca Masena. The apartment is well equipped and feels quite spacious for a one bedroom pied-a-terre. There were four of us, two adults and two children and it seemed to easily absorb us and all of our things. The courtyard is a real bonus and catches the sun for a good part of the day – on two occasions we made having lunch there part of our itinerary. A minor criticism would be the taps where, in true Italian fashion, form seems to have overtaken function, but we got used to them. We found the location on Dorsoduro is really good. It’s away from the tourist hordes of Venice, but easy walking to most places we wanted to go. Its proximity to the San Basilo vaporetto stop helps too. Dorsoduro is a fascinating area in itself and the restaurants and bars seem to be very good, as well as more reasonable, catering to residents and students. For our children Ca Masena, hidden down an alleyway off Zattere, was like a secret hideaway in the middle of the seething excitement of Venice. For us it was calm and comfortable after a long day.

“Well appointed in great location”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2014

We stayed a leisurely six nights in Ca'masena. Well placed for Vaporetto, good supermarket (for Venice) some very decent local restaurants. Excellent weather was also laid on, which helps. Efficient 'Meet and greet', at the adjacent friendly Trattoria. Should there be rain, the apartment has good TV etc. Very quiet situation, and easy walking to the noisy bustle of tourist Venice. Vaporetto pass highly recommended. However, good for two adults, but folding sofa/chair etc is for children/family.

“A haven of peace, yet close to the action”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2014

This lovely apartment is tucked away down a narrow alley just off the beautiful Zattere in the quiet, sophisticated and architecturally stunning area of Dorsoduro. The booking process was straightforward, Suzette was helpful and informative throughout the process and the arrival was a dream. We were met from our water taxi [well worth the money if there's more than 3 of you transferring from Marco Polo airport] just a few steps away from the apartment by the representative from the property managing agency and given lots of information about the property and the area. We are a family of 5, with three adult daughters, so we expected the accommodation to be something of a squash, but we were, in fact, all very comfortable, as the sofa beds in the generous living area tuck away nicely when not in use, and there is plenty of space, with a good kitchen and bathroom and a lovely terrace. The location is fantastic: you are within walking distance of all the tourist hotspots, yet in a relatively quiet, peaceful district full of lovely bars and restaurants. We will definitely return.

“A true Venetian Expereience, but this time a good one!”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2014

We have stayed in Venice many time with good and bad experiences from hotels and self-catering. This was a good experience. This time the apartment was all that it was advertised, great location, excellent restaurants nearby, close to water bus stops, a blues singer to meet and greet and a classic Venetian apartment in all its glory with a garden!! Recommended to anyone wanting a true Venice experience

“Perfect place”

Reviewed 19 May 2014

Ca'Masena is a comfortable and tastefully furnished appartment enhanced by Richard's paintings. It is so conveniently located to explore the delights of Venice on foot or by Vaporetti. Highly reccommended!

“More than just a great location”

Reviewed 16 May 2014

The apartment is at the end of a small calle just off the Zattere in the Dorsoduro district. This means that as you step out from the calle you get wonderful views across to the Guidecca and as you walk along the beautiful Zattere the pleasure of bright sunlight for much of the day. With vaporetto stops nearby getting around is very easy and many must do sights such as the Galleria Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim gallery are an easy walk away( as are several lesser known churches worth visiting) . Great bars and restaurants are also minutes away. However this pretty apartment is more than just a great location. The small kitchen area is very well equipped, the beds are very comfortable and the living room spacious and elegant. The courtyard is lovely. The nearby supermarket has everything you might need and there is a a lovely fruit and vegetable shop round the corner. The meet and greet service was excellent. We would recommend this apartment unreservedly. We stayed for a week.

“Everything you need in a brilliant location”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2014

My wife and I stayed at Ca' Masena with our 2 children. The appartment was perfect very comfortable. Bedroom, dining area, kitchen and bathroom all really good. Great Wifi connection and washing machine and garden for sorting laundry and supermarket just round the corner. Was a short walk to the centre of Venice and even nearer to San Margareta, where the restaurants were much nice and much better value. would definitely stay here again.

“Perfect for a more authentic Venice experience!”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2014

I had always wanted to visit Venice but wasn't keen on the "touristy" experience or sure how much fun it would be with young children (5 and 7) until I read an article in a newspaper recommending a stay at Ca' Masena. We had an absolutely brilliant time! The apartment is small but perfectly formed. There is plenty of room for a young family - we had the spacious double bedroom and the kids were on sofa-beds in the lounge. There is free-WIFI, loads of guide-books, TV/DVD etc to keep the kids happy after a long day of walking and a pretty courtyard for sitting outside if it's sunny. The kitchen/dining room comfortably catered for 6 people and as we had our in-laws staying nearby in a hotel we cooked dinner in the apartment a couple of times which was great as we did find eating out to be expensive (as anticipated!) - so it was great to have that option. Best of all is the location, in Dorsoduro which although incredibly central and beautiful, also manages to feel like a real neighbourhood. You can get to the famous sights and the Grand Canal really quickly, but equally spend hours happily wandering the backstreets and lesser known squares in Dorsoduro (some of the best cicchetti bars are around here too). There is a large and excellent Billa supermarket pretty much next door to the apartment, the best ice-cream in Venice at Nico's a short stroll away (they also do coffee and pastries for breakfast), the Zattere waterfront for people watching and 3 waterbus stops within a short distance The owner (Suzette) was really helpful throughout, and there is a brilliant meet and greet service where you are taken to the apartment, shown around and given a few excellent locals tips for restaurants etc. The best of these tips was to try the local wine shop where you can buy 3 litre bottles of local wine (really nice quality - certainly no worse than any table wine in the restaurants) from a friendly local winemaker for a few Euros! I am already planning a return visit to Ca' Masena - can't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else!

“Ca'Masena met all our requirements for a stay in Venice.”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2013

Ca'Masena is well situated near a vaporetto stop and within walking distance of the main sites. - Also, a few steps away from a small supermarket and restaurants on the Zattare. It was delightfully cool and quiet which was important when staying in Venice in August.
