Location description from owner

The County Donegal region

Donegal and the Northwest of Ireland is an area of undiscovered scenic beauty. Located on the Wild Atlantic Way driving route, there are many iconic attractions worth seeing such as Slieve League (one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe), Glenveagh National Park, Fanad Lighthouse, Malin Head (the most northerly point in Ireland) Donegal boasts 13 Blue Flag beaches and many links golf courses.

There are lots of pretty villages and towns to visit and tourists enjoy the friendliness and warmth of the people. The food offering is excellent featuring artisan local produce from the land and sea. Traditional crafts can be viewed such as tweed weaving or pottery making. Irish, folk and country music features on any trip to Donegal, boasting famous names such as Daniel O' Donnell, Enya and Clannad to name but a few. There are regular music sessions to enjoy in the local pubs.

Donegal is a destination in itself or a super base from which to tour the northern half of Ireland such as the Giant's Causeway, the Titanic quarter and the world famous Bushmills Whiskey. It is also within easy driving reach of County Sligo - home to the poet William Butler Yeats.

Donegal Town

Covering 900 acres, Lough Eske can be mirror-like or busy with white-flecked waves. It provides an ever-changing vista, a haven for boaters, a pleasant journey for walkers and cyclists. In spring and summer it yields part of its treasure of salmon, brown trout, and char to anglers.

Rising above the Lough Eske are the Bluestack Mountains which divide the county into West and East Donegal. Na Cruacha Gorm, the highest peak, stands at 674 metres and Barnesmore Gap provides a gateway to the West. You can walk the Bluestack Way to Glenties, climb Banagher Hill, see a memorial to those who died in a warplane crash in 1944, view the lovely Eglish Valley and discover the ancient Disert cemetery. The 'Famine Pot' was used during The Great Famine and it is a testament to all the people who lost their lives in the mid-1840's and 1850's.

The Lodge at Harvey's Point is ideally located to cater for the growing popularity of walking as a health and leisure pastime. Whether it is a lakeside stroll, a saunter through woods, a meander along golden beaches, a bog road walk, or a refreshing trek in the foothills of the Bluestacks, it's all on our doorstep and waiting for you to explore!
