Set in a delightful rural valley deep in wooded countryside, Le Grange is a charming, spacious 18th Century barn which has been restored to an exceptionally high standard giving comfort, space and complete seclusion with the Wow factor as soon as you drive through the gated drive. Originally the Coach House to the neighbouring Chateau, many of the original features, including exposed beams and stonework with large fireplaces and wood burning stoves, have been retained.

The huge Baronial style entrance hall with its atrium and antique furniture sites the oak dining table. The private heated swimming pool is close to the house whilst the meadow at the back of the house is perfect for a kick around with a football. Although this is the sleepy part of the Haut Vienne, and perfect for an away from it all holiday, the pretty market town of Magnac Laval is only 10 minutes away and for those wanting to explore a little further, Limoges with its old city, covered market and museums is only 40 minutes away.

Entering through the original double doors into the imposing medieval style hall, you will immediately be wowed by the space and light in this spectacularly restored 18th Century home. The original cartwheel light fitting adds to the baronial feel of this room which is the hub of the property with its large dining table and seating for 10. This leads through to a second reception hall with wooden pews and doors through to the Veranda. The enormous beamed living room, with comfortable overstuffed sofas and armchairs, has seating for 12. The original inglenook stone fireplace, with dog iron grate is perfect for chilly evenings.

The large well equipped farmhouse kitchen has a large oak refectory table (perfect for the children's tea) with two traditional French Dressers filled with lovely crockery. This leads out to the gardens and has views across the meadow and woodlands. The original wooden stairs (with safety banisters) lead to the oldest part of Le Grange. The huge beamed Master Bedroom has a medieval feel with double bed, sofa, armchairs and large wardrobes. The original barn doors have been used to create an entrance into the en-suite with free standing claw foot bath, marble sink and loo. There are two further bedrooms to this part of the house – one with double bed and the other a children's room with three single beds and shared bathroom. A second flight of steps leads up from the entrance hall to 3 further bedrooms – one with double bed and en-suite, one with twin beds and the other with a double bed and shared bathroom.

The private pool is 9m x 5m, with loungers and garden furniture (the pool can be heated at a cost of £120 per week). There is a covered veranda with oak table and benches which is perfect for al-fresco dining, together with a stone built BBQ. There is a lawned area to the back of the house and then a meadow overlooking two lakes. There is ample parking and we have 8 all-terrain bicycles, plus a child's bike – suitable for a 4-6 year old. There is Table Tennis in the adjacent barn. It is fun to spot many species of birds here including buzzards, herons and owls and you do feel that you have the whole of this glorious region to yourselves.

Included in the cost is a welcome pack of local food and wine.

The Limousin region

Le Grange is set in a rural valley overlooking 2 lakes.

The Haute-Vienne and the Limousin are the rural heartland of France containing numerous traditional villages, friendly locals and great food.

The Markets in the region are some of the best in the country of France and boasts one of the largest at Les Herrolles

Lake St. Pardoux - 15 minutes drive with 3 beach areas, surrounded by woodlands, ideal for mountain biking, horse riding, jogging, and walking. 330 hectares of lake where you can take part in a number of water sports - (water-skiing, wind-surfing, canoeing, pedalos, fishing, swimming or simply laying on the beach soaking up the sun. There are restaurants, tennis courts, children's play areas, water chutes, boating, water sports, horse-riding, fishing, bicycle & nature trails all on the doorstep.


The nearby lively market town of Magnac Laval in the pretty Haute-Vienne countryside with a character filled old quarter, ancient houses, winding streets and a delightful riverside lined with attractive old buildings. The town has all the charm of rural France whilst providing all the facilities you could ever need including shops, supermarket, bars, restaurants, the town hosts a weekly traditional market on Thursday mornings if you like to do your shopping in true French style.

Le Dorat has an important 12th century church in the Romanesque style, the Collegiale de St. Pierre and a fortified gate unique to the Limousin region it also has an outlet store for Limoges porcelain a wide range of shops, bars, restaurants superstores and of course a weekly market.

Bessines Sur Gartempe is a pretty popular village with 5 restaurants, supermarkets, bakers, butchers, wine cellar, cafe's, florists, doctors, post office, banks, newsagents and markets on Thursday afternoon and Sunday mornings.
