There is a fan-assisted oven, ceramic hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. Plenty of crockery and cutlery is supplied for four people plus many other pots and pans for preparing a range of meals.

Stone steps lead down into the private courtyard at the rear of the house which is surrounded by wisteria and climbing roses growing along the walls. There is a table and seating for four people where you can enjoy meals or just relax and get away from it all.

The ground floor bedroom, with 2 large antique single beds, bedside tables and mirrored armoire, has its own en suite bathroom with shower. A glass door leads out into the courtyard.

On the top floor is the master suite with double bed and matching bedside tables. A desk sits in one corner along with a restored antique mirror. It has an en suite bathroom with full size bath (plus overhead shower).

Domme is an old bastide town founded in the 13th century. The town is perched on a hill overlooking the stunning Dordogne river, one of the most spectacular views in the area. In the centre is the town hall surrounded by shops and restaurants. You can also visit the caves of Domme with its stalactites and remains of bison and mammoths.

Domme is an ideal base for exploring the Perigord Noir region. It is close to Sarlat (capital of the Perigord Noir), Les Eyzies (famous for its many prehistoric sites) as well as the wonderful chateaux at Beynac, Castelnaud and Milandes.

The region is renowned for its local produce. Most of the local villages and towns host weekly markets where you can explore and taste the many specialties of the area such as strawberries, foie gras, truffles, walnuts and cepes mushrooms. Domme's market is on Thursday, the nearby town of Cenac holds one on Tuesdays and there are the famous Sarlat markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

For more energetic pursuits, the Dordogne river is perfect for canoing and swimming. There are lots of sandy beaches dotted along the river as well as many companies hiring canoes. A cycle track follows the old railway line from Sarlat to Cazoules and there are many walking trails along the river and through the local walnut and chestnut groves

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

Domme and this section of the Dordogne is stunningly beautiful with limestone cliffs fringing the Dordogne and its castles and most buildings dating back centuries.

The area is steeped in history from the cave art of prehistoric man, through the Cathar crusades, the imprisonment of the Templar Knights, the 100 year war, the wars of religion and WWII resistance.

The village markets are a delight and there are a wide range of restaurants in Domme, down the hill in Cenac and in the surrounding villages or Sarlat 12 km away.

“Perfect week”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2016

My daughter , son in law and myself enjoyed a delightful week at the "Cosy Cottage". The Cottage supplied us with all our needs and we enjoyed the outside patio a great deal. When we arrived our hosts - Glyn and Catherine - had thoughtfully supplied us with a care package for our immediate needs as well as including a delicious bottle of wine. Domme is a charming village with good restaurants and shops. Domme is an excellent home base for enjoying the Dordogne area.

Owner's reply: Thankyou Nancy, we are glad you enjoyed your week in Domme. It was good to meet you.
