Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Clackmannanshire is Scotland's smallest county. It has hills and glens to explore and castles and towers to visit. A great place for walking, cycling and golfing, Dollar is also well placed for visiting Stirling only 20 mins away with its amazing castle, the National Wallace Monument and Bannockburn Heritage Centre.

Other interesting places to visit include Blair Palace in Pitlochry and Scone Palace in Perth. The Falkirk Wheel Visitor Centre is 30 mins away for those who enjoy canal trips.

Dollar

Dollar itself is one of 4 hillfoot villages along the A91 from Stirling to St Andrews and has shops, pubs and restaurants. It even has its own museum!

Surrounded by the Ochil Hills, nearby Castle Campbell ( a stronghold of the Campbell clan) is a great place to visit on a sunny day. A romantic and beautiful setting - the castle is host to summer weddings. The terraced gardens overlook Dollar and the valley below.

Nearby is Gartmorn Dam Country Park for leisurely walks and for the total opposite Knockhill Motorsport Centre for race events and driving experiences!

For retail therapy, Tillicoultry (only 10 mins away by car) has a shopping outlet village and Sterling
Furniture has a Homestore, Garden Centre and 2 restaurants. Tillicoultry also has a dry
ski slope centre.

“Welcoming and luxurious”

Reviewed 13 Feb 2013

Our stay at The Ballroom in Dollarbeg Castle was amazing. Everything felt very relaxed from the first email to Sue right through to our departure. Sue's directions were so precise - attention to detail was second to none! Jennifer made us feel very welcome as we 'wowed' each room we were shown. The items in the hamper were delicious - so much so that we had to make a stop at the the wee delicatessen on our way home on Monday! The accommodation was extremely comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. The internet was rather slow but maybe this is the case in the Dollar area. We dined at Hollybank -58, Glasgow Road, Stirling FK7 0PH (01786 812311) on one of the nights. We were given a warm welcome and enjoyed the homely food. It was very busy so booking ahead may be an advantage. We went to the Dormy Clubhouse at the Glen Eagles Hotel (about 20 mins away) for Sunday lunch and spent a lovely afternoon overlooking the King's and Queen's Golf Courses. As we sat at the beautiful dining table having breakfast on the Monday, reflecting on such a wonderful weekend, we had a visit on the lawns from a couple of deer! What more can I say?
