Location description from manager

The Brittany region

Brittany is an area of breathtaking natural beauty. The long coastline is a seemingly endless succession of rocky headlands, wild cliffs, island studded bays and beautiful sandy beaches. Inland is equally attractive. Fairytale castles, historic towns and ancient megaliths are sprinkled through the gentle hilly countryside. A wide variety of interests are well catered for , including golf, fishing, all sorts of watersports, hiking and cycling. The region is easily accessible from the UK with ferry ports at St Malo , Roscoff or Cherbourg and with Ryanair providing very low cost flights to Dinard.

Dinan

The apartment is located on the port of Dinan, where you can find some attractive riverside cafes and restaurants serving good traditional French and Breton food, and a good bakery. From the port you can explore the river Rance by self drive boat or take a boat trip to the old citadel port of St. Malo.

You can also get out into the country by the cycle path which runs along the river up to the village of Taden, or going the other way, all the way to Rennes.

The port is linked to the historic town centre of Dinan by the steep Jerzual hill - about 10 minutes on foot if you are reasonably fit! The town of DInan has been remarkably well preserved and contains many beautiful old buildings.

One of the highlights of the DInan calendar is the Fête des Remparts - one of Europe's biggest medieval festivals - which takes place every two years in the third week in July ( the next one takes place July 2018) . Other events include a weekend of live music , jousting on boats on the port, fireworks on July the 14th and a series of free open air jazz concerts during August.

“Charming”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2016

The apartment was comfortable and lived up to our expectations in comfort. We did have trouble finding parking on the Rue de Four. We had to park under the viaduct every day, and there was often congestion if people were leaving or going to the Canoe Club. Directions to the gite were also confusing, The door was blue--not green--and we found it much easier to get to the gite by approaching from Lanvalley. Going through the Port of Dinan was a nightmare.

“Lovely”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2015

We went for a week, my husband, daughter and I and really enjoyed ourselves. The apartment was lovely and very clean. I wasn't sure how to use the bottled gas cooker because I had never used onebefore but we were quickly shown by the owners without any hassle and this was appreciated.

“Fleur De Lys & Lanvallay turns a holiday into a honeymoon”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2011

We picked the perfect location, every morning the bedroom shutters were opened to reveal the beautiful scenery, we had breakfast looking out towards other old buildings on the river and each afternoon we would wander over the water across the bridge to the bakery or the cafe and just enjoyed being in that part of France. This original tudor timber house was exceptionally well cared for with obvious owner pride, clean and comfortable. Parking was no problem, the bed comfortable enough, bathroom clean & kitchen stocked with any utensil you may need . We loved our 5 nights at Fleur de Lys and its location great for exploring futher afield. Our only negative is the steep entry steps not suitable for people with stair case issues
