Description

Located in a quiet side street very close to the port of Dinan ,this character traditional Breton house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Renovated with care and taste, there is a large private rear garden, central heating and a log burner.

A short walk across the old stone bridge brings you to a number of good riverside restaurants, bistros, cafes and a good baker.

A few yards from the cottage is the pretty port of Dinan with a good selection of restaurants and cafés, here you can hire a boat or canoe and explore the river. Along the river runs the tow path , ideal for cycling or walking into the tranquil Breton countryside or to the beautiful village of Léhon with its ancient Abbey and cobbled streets .

From the port you can walk up the Rue du Jerzual ( steep but worth the effort!) which brings you into the perfectly preserved centre of medieval Dinan. You can also drive up into the town ( 2 minutes) and park in the town centre, or in the season,

Location description from manager

The Brittany region

Brittany is an area of outstanding natural beauty, the North of the region has a long attractive coastline with beautiful sandy beaches, dramatic headlands and peaceful coves. There is a string of seaside towns and villages, each with their own charms. The Corsair town of St Malo and medieval Dinan are rightly popular, another 'must see' is Mont St Michel, a walled Abbey rising dramatically out of the sea.

Inland is equally attractive, with peaceful countryside where you can find traditional Breton villages, chapels and market towns. The region is easily accessible from the UK with ferry ports at St Malo , Roscoff or Cherbourg and with Ryanair providing very low cost flights to Dinard.

Dinan

The cottage is situated in a quiet street very close to Dinan's picturesque port area .Dinan is a beautiful well preserved medieval town. Behind the ramparts the old centre is a network of cobbled streets, timber framed buildings housing shops, cafés and restaurants. Rue Du Jerzual and Rue Du Petit Fort lead through one of the ancient town gates down to the Port, winding between two perfect rows of restored and protected artisans' houses.

On the Port you can sit and watch the world go by from one of the riverside cafes and restaurants, take a boat trip to the old citadel port of St. Malo or hire a self drive boat and explore the delightful river Rance. The more energetic may prefer to walk or cycle up or down the towpath. Ten minutes upstream is the picturesque village of Lehon with its own castle, twelfth century abbey and open air heated swimming pool complex.

There is a good number of excellent golf courses a short drive away from the house, including Dinard (founded in 1887), St Malo, Pen Guen (St Cast) and Sables D'Or at Cap Frehel.

“cosy, comfortable,convenient”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2017

We stay in Dinan, our favourite mediaeval city of Brittany, every year & always look to hire a property in the port area. Les Volets Bleus did not disappoint - comfortable, cosy cottage with lovely garden & ideally situated. Jeremy & Julia, the property managers were extremely helpful & couldn't do enough for us in our hour of need. Wouldn't hesitate to return

“Christmas in Dinan”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2016

Les Volets Bleus was a great choice for our Christmas break. There's lots of accommodation in Dinan but we particularly wanted a place with comfortable living space and some atmosphere for our month's stay. The house ticked every box. Thick stone walls, a log burner (which we didn't light as the central heating was really efficient and warmed the house perfectly. It's well equipped and furnished with comfortable sofas so great for relaxing in between exploring this beautiful town. The open plan layout includes a good kitchen and dining area with a large table for relaxed meals. Jeremy, who manages the house, was efficient and helpful throughout the booking process and as he lives nearby is on hand if needed. I asked for a Christmas tree to be provided and he came up trumps with a beautiful one which we really appreciated. We didn't use the pretty courtyard style gardens but they'd be perfect for outside living and dining in fine weather and I noticed a large barbeque in the store. Dinan's a great destination. A beautiful and unspoilt town, the river close by and with plenty to do and see. Les Volets Bleus is a delightful home from home from which to explore.
