Location description from owner

The Brittany region

Brittany is one of the most beautiful regions in France, with a long attractive coastline, tranquil countryside and unspoilt historic towns and villages. At the coast, you'll find safe family sandy beaches, dramatic headlands and peaceful coves, often linked by the coastal footpath. The seaside towns and villages are worth seeking out and exploring as well - here you'll often find traditional French bakeries as well as restaurants and bistros. The walled corsair town of St Malo has some long sandy beaches, as well as being a ferry port for Brittany Ferries. Dinan, one of Brittany's best preserved medieval towns is just south of St Malon , here you can wander the cobbled streets admiring the timber framed merchant's houses or take a tour along the town ramparts.Inland Brittany is equally attractive, with peaceful countryside where you can find traditional Breton villages, chapels and market towns. The area is ideal for cycling - there is a good network of cycle paths , and away from the main roads you'll see little traffic.

Dinan

The cottage is in peaceful countryside , a couple of minutes drive from Languenan , a small Breton town with a bakery , bar and shop. Medieval Dinan can be reached in about 10 minutes by car - here you can find an unspoilt historic centre with many fine half timbered buildings which now are the home of bakeries, independent shops and artists galleries. The town is surrounded by impressive stone ramparts and there is also a well preserved castle. There is a good selection of restaurants , cafés and bistros catering for all budgets. The pretty port area is well worth a visit - here you can hire a boat or a bike and explore the river Rance, or simply sit at a riverside café and have a drink and watch everyone else being active! The North Brittany coast is about a 30 minute drive north - here you can enjoy some beautiful , safe family beaches and explore the seaside towns and villages of Dinard , St Briac and Lancieux. The walled centre of St Malo is also worth exploring - a good selection of fish restaurants is found here, as well as some long sandy beaches.

“Well-equipped and in an idyllic location, Le Bois Hannelais was a real find.”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2015

The house itself is beautiful, with lots of original features and a tremendous sense of space. The finish is excellent, and the minor problems we did encounter (a shower that wasn't draining well) were rectified literally the following day by friendly and helpful caretakers. The garden and outside facilities are lovely - lots of space for eating outside, surrounded by grape vines and figs, and the playhouse was a real boon for my daughters (seven and four). Also nice to have decent wifi and a considerable library of DVDs to pick through of an evening. The one thing we did miss was a cupboard in which to store food - the kitchen is huge, but the cupboards are all full of equipment, though there is a very decent-sized fridge. The local area was also great - Dinan and Dinard were nice to wander around, and there was enough to do with the children that in ten days we didn't spend more than forty minutes in the car (and that was going to Mont St Michel).

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed comments, very glad you enjoyed the house and area . We'll have a look at the layout of the kitchen, and see if we can improve the storage facilities in the kitchen . Thanks again for booking with us, and hope to see you again soon, Jeremy

“beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped for small children”

We had 4 children aged from 3 years to 6 years. There was a lot of space for play both indoors and outdoors and a lot of toys and equipment thoughtfully provided. The house was a pleasure to stay in; furnished to a very high standard. The beaches were 20 minutes drive (St Cast le Guildo best for children). Car necessary.
