For those of you who have not visited Paphos it is a place for all tastes - there's great nightlife, numerous historical sites, lovely scenery, a huge range of bars and restaurants, beaches, golf courses within a few miles, the picturesque old town with daily fruit and veg market, the lively harbour area, and all with the great Mediterranean climate. The weather is usually warm (sunbathing) from mid February through until mid to late November, and can be quite hot from mid June to September.
Paphos has numerous festivals through the year - Green Monday, Flower, Cataclysmo (flood), carnival, Aphrodite, Dionysia (wine), Jazz & Choir etc. Drama and music are performed at the amphitheatre in Paphos. In 2013 May Day is 1st May, Good Friday 3rd May & Easter 6th and 7th May. Check out paphos.com for details of the festivals & see what's on when you visit Cyprus!
Sports - Cydive operate subaqua, there are numerous fishing trip operators, Paphos has a football stadium and team and also Paphos Tigers rugby union club play home games at Tala village.
There are historic sites just west of the harbour area including Tomb of the Kings and the mosaics of the House of Dionysius and the old Crusader fort that dominates the harbour. Further afield and 45 minutes drive to the east is the Kourion archaelogical site that includes Greek and Roman remains and a wonderful amphitheatre where plays are performed.
The Akamas peninsula west of Paphos has beautiful unspoilt areas (and rough roads!) and the famous beaches of Lara and Toxeftra where turtles come ashore in June to lay their eggs.
The Troodos Mountains are an hour away. There is a ski resort there which is active from December to February, and the beautiful Kykos Monastery which is open to the public free of charge. There are picnic areas in the aromatic pine forests that cover these mountains.
The Kato (lower) Paphos area includes the harbour and archaeological area, the coastline East from the harbour with its hotels and sandy public beaches, and the famous club and nightlife area known locally as Bar Street which extends through the town from the harbour area North East and contains dozens of pubs, clubs and eateries, and in the summer is very popular with young revellers. There is an area East of Kato Paphos that has tennis courts, kart track, crazy golf, and water park.
Or just chill by the pool!
