This part of Turkey is special because it is unspoiled and varied. The coastal area of Fethiye is backed by the huge Taurus mountain range. In April you can stroll in the hot sun while admiring the snow laden peaks before they finally melt in May. This area is known as the Turquoise Coast as the waters around this part are a vivid blue, making the Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz one of the most photographed places in Turkey. The local Turkish people are very welcoming, and the dining and hospitality is excellent and great value for money.
The lively resort of Hisaronu is a 10 to 15 minute sroll away from the apartment , at nightime it's full of life with plenty of shops bars and restaraunts to choose from cattering for all tastes from Indian and Chinese cuisine to Italian, English and traditional Turkish dishes. Hisaronu and Ovacik are situated in an elevated position at the foot of Mount Babadag. This elevated position provides a very welcoming cooling breeze particulaly in summer when it can be extremely hot down in Olu Deniz and Fethiye.
Likewise Olu Deniz has a great choice of shops bars and restauants and varied cuisine including excellent seafood dining. A 10 minute Dolmus (mini bus) ride from Ovacik is all it takes to reach the beach with it's clear blue waters, fabulous beach and stunning scenery. Lay on the famous crescent shaped beach watching the paragliders swooping in from 6,000ft, or take off from the sea in a microlight. Also nearby see the unique Greek ghost town of Kayakoy deserted for 80 years.
The town of Fethiye (with its port and marina) is only 15 minutes away by dolmus. The Tuesday market is a must and bargain-hunters will not be disappointed. Whilst in Fethiye take the opportunity to enjoy a boat trip. For between £5 and £10 per head (depending on exchage rate and haggling!) you can enjoy a 12 island cruise including lunch. The trip lasts approximately 5 hours and you can swim and snorkel in some of the most beautiful turquoise waters imaginable. The multitude of shops offer the opportunity to bargain for excellent leather goods or those fake designer labels. Gold and jewellery are extremely good value in Turkey.
Dolmus (mini buses) run like taxis every 10 minutes for 50p anywhere in the municipality and aprox. 80p to Fethiye.
Hisaronu has a Monday market and a much bigger one in Fethiye on Tuesday.
You can do it all here but sorry, no golf !
