The Occitanie region

St Nazaire is situated in the languedoc Roussillon Region of Southern France and has a rich variety of attractions for all ages and interests. It has the best weather in France and is bordered by the Pyrenees Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. You can find out more about the region by visiting sites such as:

Perpignan is the last major town in Languedoc before the Spanish border. There's a real mix of cultures in this corner of the region: Catalan, Romany and North African all co-exist in this sunny city of palm-lined squares.

It is the former capital of the Kings of Majorca and the Counts of Roussillon, and changed hands repeatedly during the medieval period until finally becoming French territory with the Treaty of the Pyrenees of 1659.

There are many sports that you can both participate in and enjoy as a spectator while you are in the are. Since it is located by the Mediterranean Sea, there are many activities that you can do on the water. Deep sea fishing is a very popular. You can either rent your own boat or go out with skilled fishermen who know the waters the best. A lot of tourists like to just lay out by the beach and soak up the sun or go swimming as well. When you are on the beach, you can play some water sports as well, such as jet skiing and parasailing. If you don't want to hang out by the beach for too long, you can head inland and play some soccer, tennis, or golf. There are some great golf courses in the area, some of which you need to make arrangements to play at beforehand. There are fields to play in outside of the city, and plenty of tennis courts set up as well. You can also go to the stadium to watch games Rugby internationals (USAP XV or Dragons XIII). In Basketball there is also a women's team at the highest level. Great game to watch.
There are 9 ski resorts in "Pyrénées Orientales" within a 90 km radius from Perpignan.

During the tourist season, the little train leaves Rivesaltes, a few kilometers from Perpignan, and takes 2 hours and 15 minutes to reach  Axat, a mere 60 km away ....via  Fenouillèdes, an area famous for its wines (think Maury) and its Cathar Castles. Depending on the day of the week, the train stops in Axat for either 1 hr 30 min. or 4 hours - in both cases enough to walk around the  town or enjoy the heated open-air pool - before going  back to Rivesaltes.
