Backing onto a vineyard, the upper floor of this spacious, airy and tastefully refurbished townhouse offers exclusive access to a well presented garden. A five-minute walk takes you in Salies' historic town centre with its restaurants and thermal baths. The downstairs is unoccupied.
The house boasts two spacious 20m2 bedrooms, one with a double, the other with a single and a sofa bed. The living room has another sofa bed. Sky TV, French TV and wi-fi are included. The house is child friendly, with a cot and high chair available. Be aware that there is no bath and that you must go up some stone steps to get to the front door.
The vineyard behind us has a cave where you can sample and buy locally produced wines.
There is a 60m2 garden with a pergola for shade and large dining table. There is also an outdoor kitchen, with a sink and BBQ. For kids there is a sandpit.
A 20min walk brings you to Salies' new outdoor 3 pool complex, which costs €2.90 for adults. This area also has numerous tennis courts and a comprehensive childrens' playground. There are also many great swimming places in nearby rivers. The beach is an hour away as are the Pyrenees, with 7 ski resorts within a two-hour drive, the nearest is 1 hour away.
Salies' extensive historic centre dates to the 1600s, its most famous institution is the thermal baths. Salies also has a couple of supermarkets, banks, a cinema and all the usual array of shops and restaurants.
Spain in the form of San Sebastian is just over an hour's drive away.
There are limited bus services to local towns, but none to the airports. It is possible to get a train from Biarritz or Pau to Puyoo, but then you will need to take a taxi (about 5 miles) to get to Salies. If you plan to make excursions you will need to rent a car, which is cheapest in the airports. The Renault garage in Salies does rent cars by the day.
House combines tranquillity of being on the outskirts of town with the convenience of being a 10-minute walk to the town centre. An excellent bakery is a five-minute walk away.
