Somerset is at the heart of the West Country. It is easily accessible by motorway and Bristol airport is close by. The countryside is interspersed with winding roads and the Somerset Levels and Mendip Hills are popular with walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. If you prefer city life, there are many towns and cities within easy reach. Visit the city of Bath with its beautiful Georgian architecture, theatres, Roman Baths, shops and museums. Go to Bristol to see the Clifton Suspension Bridge, SS Great Britain and the replica of Cabot's ship, The Matthew. Clifton hosts chic shops and there are a number of shopping centres such as Cabots Circus.Other towns and cities are Wells, Glastonbury, Taunton and Cheddar to name but a few. Visit Street where there is Clarks Village, a designer outlet shopping complex. Weston super mare and Burnham-on-sea are along the Bristol Channel where children can build sand castles.
Situated on the Isle of Wedmore, where King Arthur famously signed The Treaty of Wedmore in 878AD, Stoughton Cross is only 3 miles from The Mendip Hills and is surrounded by the Somerset Levels. The village of Wedmore is 1.5 miles away and has 3 pubs all of which do excellent food. There are a number of designer cloths shops, 2 excellent butchers, a fish shop, newsagents/general store, gift shops and a delicatessen. You can walk to the village along the road or across the fields passing the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club.
There are a number of nature reserves close by; Ham Wall, Shapwick Heath and Westhay Moor which have all been featured on the BBC. The murmurations of Starlings in the winter months are a sight not to be missed. Climb the Mendip Hills and see across the Bristol Channel to Wales in the distance.
