The Gatehouse at Town Tenement Farm is a stone-built two-storey cottage in the quiet and peaceful village of Challacombe within the beautiful Exmoor National Park. The Gatehouse is full of charm and character. There is a large living room with exposed beams, a lovely log/coal stove, 32" Freeview TV and French doors out to a private enclosed garden which also has a large decked area and picnic table. The fully-equipped kitchen has an electric oven & hob, fridge (freezer box), microwave and dishwasher. Upstairs are two bedrooms, a double bedroom and a triple (with a single bed and large bunks) and a bathroom with a bath (shower over), hand-basin & WC.
Beside the Gatehouse are three acres of wildlife grounds, ideal for families and dogs. There are wild-flower meadows, several lawned and wooded areas, a fruit and vegetable garden, a wildlife pond, lots of birds and butterflies, and a delightful walk up and around Humphrey's Hill.
The cottages and grounds are very child friendly. We can provide a cot, high chair, fire guard and stair gate (if required) and within the grounds is a large children's play area comprising two towers linked with a bridge, a swing, slide, climbing board, climbing net, fireman's pole, ladder, periscope and driving wheel. Beside the play area is a sheltered arbour seat with lovely views for the grown-ups.
John & Melanie are usually on-site from 9am to 5pm every day and are very happy to advise you to help you get the very most from your stay, and to provide additional services (e.g. child-minding, breakfast, bed-making and cleaning) - please look at the Availability tab for more details.
Within 300 yards of the Gatehouse is an excellent pub with award-winning food and real ales, and a handy shop and Post Office, with delicious cream teas and home-made cakes.
The village of Challacombe is very friendly towards visitors, has excellent local walks and is in an ideal central location from which to explore the heart of Exmoor, the sandy beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde, and the rocky coves of the North Devon & Somerset coast.
The Gatehouse is one of five holiday cottages at Exmoor Cottage Holidays and has recently been completely renovated, including new kitchen & bathroom and insulation to the outside walls. There are four other cottages, also listed in this website, with one to three bedrooms, surrounding a peaceful courtyard. John and Melanie look forward to welcoming you to Exmoor.
