The closest neighbours are on an island 200 meters away, but you are not likely to bump into many people here. However, birds, deers and rabbits are frequently seen. Porkkala is a popular place for admiring the bird migrations in spring and autumn.

The Porkkala peninsula hiking areas are very close by, and during summer time there is a small grocery shop and restaurant a short walking distance away.

Within a 20-minute-drive from the house there is a resort with a golf course in the summer, downhill and cross-country skiing in the winter and horse riding stables. There is a spa 30 minutes by car from the residence.

Southern Finland region

Kirkkonummi is an idyllic municipality on the south coast of Finland, 20 km west of Helsinki. On a sightseeing tour, the visitor will encounter the cultural traditions of Kirkkonummi, which are represented by a medieval greystone church, museums of local history and culture, the lush surroundings of the Hvitträsk manor house, built by architects in the National Romantic style as their studio home, and Porkkala's museum pieces and countryside haunts dating back to the time when it was leased to the Russians in 1944-1956.

Interesting examples of church architecture worth seeing, in addition to the medieval greystone church, are the Merikappeli (sea chapel) built at Upinniemi in 1965, and the wooden church of Haapajärvi completed in 1823. Another interesting destination is the Orthodox church of the Pokrova monastic community at Jorvas.

Activities for every taste

So close, yet so different. For nature enthusiasts, Kirkkonummi has some enchanting trails in the Lake Meiko Nature Reserve and Nuuksio National Park, and also in the archipelago scenery of Porkkala, which is a favourite of bird-watchers. The pleasant little guest harbour at Porkkala is at the service of visiting boaters and sailors.

Those after adventure tourism in Kirkkonummi will be satisfied throughout the year: canoeing, surf fishing, dog driving and maybe some rock-climbing. As soon as the first snow falls, the downhill ski slopes of Peuramaa attract skiers of all ages. For horse enthusiasts, Kirkkonummi offers several stables, and the Kirkkonummi Golf Centre is at the disposal of visiting golfers.
