The Province of Leinster region

Bunclody is located in the south-east of Ireland within easy reach of Dublin Airport (1.5 hours) and Rosslare Ferryport (one hour). It is situated in an area of lush green farmland in the valley of the Slaney River. The Blackstairs Mountains act as a beautiful background to the town, as well as providing scenic drives and walks of every description from easy strolls to challenging hill walks. Whether you are interested in history, landscape, beaches, gardens or old scenic towns, this area has them all. Norman castles dating from the middle ages can be found in Ferns, Enniscorthy, Huntington (Clonegal village) or Carlow. Beautifully built old monasteries are located all over the area, from Glendalough in Wicklow (1 hour's drive) to Ferns or Tintern Abbey. Most of the east coast of Wexford is one long beach (about 45 minutes drive from Moss Cottage). Ireland's largest upland area is the Wicklow Mountains, a short journey north from Bunclody. It's highest point, Lugnaquilla Mountain, is as high as you can go in Ireland outside of County Kerry. The Wexford/Carlow area is famous for its beautiful gardens. One of the best known is Altamont Garden just a very short drive north of Bunclody. Other outstanding gardens in the region are Mount Usher garden in Ashford, The Bay Garden in Camolin, and Mount Congreve Garden in Waterford. The Wexford Opera Festival is world famous and attracts world-class singers and musicians to the area every October. Ireland's most popular long distance walking route, the Wicklow Way, starts/finishes in the village of Clonegal, just 5 km from Bunclody and is just five or six day's walking from Dublin. We pick up walkers at the end or leave them to the start routinely and free of charge.

Bunclody is a small scenic town in North County Wexford and near the borders of County Carlow and County Wicklow. Its memorable characteristic is a small stream running down the middle of its main street with trees growing on either side and plenty of seating to watch the world go by. It is a very convenient town in which to stay for a while and visit the many attractions of the Wicklow, Carlow, Wexford, Kilkenny and Waterford region, known in Ireland as "the sunny south-east". Wicklow has its magnificent mountains, Kilkenny has its spectacular castle, Wexford has its brilliant beaches, and Waterford its dramatic coastline.
Bunclody has a spectacular championship standard golf club, with a unique two-story thatched clubhouse and the only elevator on any Irish golf course to bring you from the seventeenth green to the eighteenth tee. The immediate area has several gardens listed in the Wexford Garden Trail, including Newtownbarry House, Lucy's Wood, Kelly's Tombrick Garden and Altamont. The Blackstairs Mountain range is a very short drive away, ideal for hillwalking at all levels from strenuous to easy with views over half of Ireland on a good day. We can easily direct you to any walk of your choice - we have done them all - and have maps to loan, History is on your doorstep in Bunclody. Whichever way you turn in the immediate vicinity there are reminders of times past.
From Moss Cottage the small friendly town is just a ten minute walk. It has a choice of pubs and restaurants where you will be made to feel at home immediately. If you are looking for an exceptional dining experience, the Sharoe Bistro in the village of Clonegal (just 5 km from Bunclody) is highly recommended.
