Abeilhan is a typical Herault village surrounded by vineyards and is situated halfway between the historic city of Beziers (magnificent cathedral overlooking the Canal de Midi) and the medieval town of Pezenas, full of quaint restaurants and craft shops. Pezenas also has the biggest markets in the area every Saturday morning. Marseillan (home of Noilly Prat), Meze on the lagoon, with its many oyster restaurants and Sete, the Venice of the south of France are all within easy reach. The vibrant cities of Montpellier and Nimes, with its fabulous Roman amphitheatre are both within an hour's drive. The medieval walled city of Carcasonne to the west, is a must see when in this part of France. Saint Guilheim Le Desert in the Herault gorges is one of the most beautiful villages in France and the area is also great for canoeing and hiking. The nearby Lac du Salagou is also ideal for all water sports.
