'Le Bourg' is a period granite-built village house in a small hamlet called Dunet, near to Saint Benoit du Sault. It is attached only to the garage of the next door property, and our neighbours use the property only as a holiday home, so our house is always very quiet and restful. Being granite, it stays very cool in the summer but cosy in the cooler months. It is approximately 280 miles from Le Havre and a half hour drive from Limoges airport.
We have 3 bedrooms, two with double beds and one with twin beds. There is an additional single 'Z' bed which will fit into one of the double rooms or on the mezzanine. On the first floor there is also a toilet and a mezzanine floor currently used to store our many books. We have occasionally used the mezzanine to put camp beds and sleeping bags when we have a full house, but as it overlooks the stairs, it wasn't terribly successful getting the children to go to sleep!
On the ground floor there is a large tiled entrance hall with original huge stone fireplace. This leads into a passageway with the family bathroom on the right and the kitchen on the left. At the end is a large sitting/dining room with windows either end, making it light and airy.
The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, fridge and gas oven/hob. The usual cooking implements and crockery are provided. The sitting room has seating for seven adults, and the good-sized dining table has six chairs. (Although in the summer we always eat in the garden.)
Children are very welcome, and we have a variety of baby items that might prove useful including a cot, highchair and 3-wheeler off-road style pushchair. There is a swing in the garden and a child-sized picnic table. All equipment is what we have used for our children, but we would recommend that parents inspect it first, and if they are at all concerned about the condition or safety, then not to use it.
The rear garden is quite large and is fenced on all sides and leads along the side of the house to the lockable gate at the front.. I can't say that it is impossible for children or dogs to escape, but ours have never managed it.
The house is right in the centre of rural France. It is ideal for ramblers, bird watchers, fishermen or people looking for a quiet break. Although there are some excellent restaurants and bars in the area, we wouldn't recommend this area for those seeking a hectic late-night scene, we are slightly too remote for that! A car is essential, and allows you to visit the nearby towns of Chaillac, Prissac and Eguzon which all have man-made lakes. Chaillac is both for fishing and swimming, with a beach, pedaloes and a water slide, Prissac is for fishing only and Eguzon is famous locally for a variety of watersports. They all have large park areas with picnic benches and children's swings, climbing frames etc. Further afield is the pretty old town of Argenton-Sur-Creuse which is based on the French/Roman town of Argentomagus. Further still, about 45 minutes drive is the city of Chateauroux, with its huge shopping estate based just outside and quaint old town in the centre.
We would like to stress that 'Le Bourg' is not a dedicated gite or rental property, but rather a family's holiday home which is being rented out only occasionally. As such, we need to make you aware that it may be lacking some items that other rental properties are offering, such as washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher. At the time of writing this, we have had satellite TV installed, but have not yet had a chance to visit the house to see whether it works, so are not listing it as a feature of the property. We do have a television and dvd player if you would like to bring some films. The property is a basic french 200 year old farmhouse, but is clean and homely, and we believe we have priced the rental rates accordingly.
Linen and towels are included in the rental price, but we ask that you bring your own towels for sunbathing. In addition to the rental prices, there is a small extra charge of £45 to cover the cost of a local lady cleaning the house prior to your arrival and again when you leave and also for washing all the bed linen. We would ask that you send payment for this prior to arrival, or alternatively leave cash at the house when you vacate. Please contact me for further details.

We are located on the edge of the Brenne National park, surrounded by beautiful rustic mills, imposing Chateaux and haunting wartime memorials like Oradour-Sur-Glane. Eguzon and Chaillac are reknowned for their lakes which offer fishing, swimming, water sports and in the summer are lifeguard-attended.
Dunet is a small hamlet of about 14 houses. It has an old church and village green. You could walk to the nearby villages of Chaillac and Prissac to visit the bar, coffee shop, small supermarket, post office, pharmacy, bakery or butchers, but it is not advisable with small children as the country lanes have no pavements. (Although some days the most you will meet is a tractor!)
