We are in the NW region of the Pays de Loire. If you are after unspoilt countryside, rich cultural heritage or outdoor adventure, Mayenne is the place to be. From the prehistoric caves at Saulges to the Roman remains at Jublains, the Renaissance castles of Bourgon and Mezangers, there is a treasure trove of secrets to be discovered. This was also the opinion of William the Conqueror who tried in vain to besiege the medieval fortress at Sainte Suzanne from 1083-1087.
It is perfectly situated for walking and cycling holidays, and is only a 10 minute drive from both Normandy and Brittany for those who wish to explore these 2 departements. It is an ideal base to visit such attractions as Mont St. Michel, and the many medieval towns of Domfront, Vitre and Dinan. The coastal towns of Granville, Dinard, and St. Malo, are just over an hours drive away.
Fougerolles du Plessis is a small town which has all the facilities you would need. It has a supermarket, bank, bakers, 2 bars, a restaurant, hairdressers, garage, lake (with play equipment) and mini-golf. There are many footpaths in the area ideal for walking enthusiasts, or for those who like to bring their dogs on holiday with them.
The town of Fougeres is just 20 minutes away, and has the largest medieval chateau in Europe. It has many good shops, a cinema and ten pin bowling. Just outside the town is the Forest of Fougeres, which has a large lake and beach. There is also horse riding in the Forest. There are many cider and calvados producers in the area who are happy for you to come in and taste their produce.
