Situated in the picturesque rolling hills of the Chalosse, this lovely Maison de Maître (built in 1871) has been lovingly renovated to offer spacious and comfortable accommodation, including extended family holidays or groups of friends and families. It is ideal for unwinding and getting away from it all in a tranquil part of undiscovered rural France and for exploring family beaches and surfing on the Atlantic, visiting local market towns, wines tours and tasting, mountains and swimming lakes in Mugron, St Pierre-du-Mont and Orthez.
Set in 5 acres, the house is surrounded by large gardens, terracing and private woodland with views over the local countryside. A variety of exotic trees and plants, including peach, walnut, cherry and weeping willows provide welcome shade on summer days with plenty of space for privacy or spending time together. The gardens provide a wonderful space to relax and unwind - we often stop in our tracks to watch local wildlife - deer, woodpeckers and butterflies.
On the ground floor the spacious lounge and dining room (seating 8) is furnished with two comfy sofas and has original floor tiles and a wood-burning stove. The second sitting room again has original tiles, original large fireplace and new soapstone wood-burning stove for chillier evenings and two more comfy sofas. This leads on to the well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, oven and new 5 ring gas hob with large kitchen table. Double doors open onto a large terrace with a canopied dining and relaxation area (comfortably seating 8, great for eating al fresco) with BBQ and plancha and overlooking the pretty Landais 'four' (ancient bread house).
Upstairs you'll find four bright and airy bedrooms off the first floor hallway, comprising one king with private en suite shower room with toilet facilities and hand basin; one bedroom with a double bed; a third bedroom with a double and one single bed and a fourth bedroom with two single beds. The family bathroom with bath, shower and hand basin is on the ground floor with a separate toilet next door and there is a further cloakroom with toilet and hand basin on the first floor.
The house is attractively furnished with a diverse range of beautiful antiques and objects sourced regionally and throughout Europe. With stone and tile floors downstairs and renovated wooden floors upstairs, the house remains wonderfully cool in the summer months.
The house benefits from a new in-ground 10m x 5m eco-friendly salt water pool reducing the use of harsh chemicals. As of April 2016 it is also now fitted with solar heating, so increased pool temperatures for guests throughout the summer and warmer pool temperatures too for swimming in May, June, September and October. Water temperatures reach between 20-28° (depending on outside air temperatures and time of year). The pool is open from mid May to mid October, has a solar shower and is equipped with a safety alarm and gated fencing to keep young children safe around the pool area. A large barn beside the pool provides shade for dining and games, including a new outdoor table tennis table. Guests have priority use of the pool. A large barn beside the pool provides shade for dining and games, including a new outdoor table tennis table this season. We provide plastic plates and glasses to use beside the pool. Previously an old farmhouse, we have interesting relics and rustic items on display and our first two chickens arrived in 2015.
There are remote-controlled electric gates and plenty of space to park several cars safely on the driveway. Guests have also enjoyed using the large driveway to play boules/pétanque. Guests have priority use of the pool. It is occasionally used at other times of the day by the owners of Maison Pyron, a quiet professional couple, who stay in the adjoining grenier and and are on hand as much or as little as you wish. We maintain the grounds and pool during your stay and can suggest visits, restaurants and day-trips. Fluent in French I can help you with translations and bookings.
