The privileged Canary Island climate makes the archipelago the perfect place for playing golf, with an average temperature of 23º and 365 days of sunshine. Winters are gentle, with little rain and summers are stable without excessive heat. Indeed, a growing number of professional and amateur golfers choose the Canary Islands for playing all year around.
Located on the south east coast of the island, San Miguel de Abona is one of the Tenerife's oldest towns.
Boasting narrow streets, classic Canarian achitecture and a beautiful eighteenth-century church, the resort makes for superb, relaxed sightseeing holidays. For more vigorous exploration, the region is also home to stunning mountains and pine forests that can be enjoyed with a variety of excursions including hiking trails and horseriding.
The closest airport to San Miguel is Tenerife South Airport, which lies around 7km (five minutes) south of the resort.
Around the region's mountains, which can be explored on foot or on horseback. Nearby Mount Teide is Spain's highest peak, although even closer to San Miguel is the Mirador de la Centinela which offers equally spectacular views.
Golf del Sur has so much to offer.
Its eponymous 27-hole golf course is not to be missed by the sporty types, nor is neighbouring golf course Amarilla. Other activities in the area include horse riding at the Pura Vida Riding School, and PADI open water diving courses.
If you're after a unique experience, head down to Marina San Miguel where you can take in the sights of the private yachts or visit one of the charters and rent one for yourself. There's also the 'Submarine Safari,' a popular attraction which consists of a submarine excursion into the Atlantic.
For the ultimate relaxation experience on your holiday to Golf del Sur, spend a day in the Atlantic Spa and Wellness Centre, which offers a host of veritable treats for your body. There's a gym, countless pools, hydro-massage beds and Turkish baths, amongst other things. Try a chocolate treatment, seaweed wrap or a hot stone massage before you head back home to reality.
A holiday in Golf del Sur wouldn't be complete without visiting the beach. While there's a small one in the resort, we recommend that you take a daytrip to nearby sandy Playa de Las Americas' beach, which is great for kids and those who want to try their hand at water sports.
