Rest Cottage accommodates four guests and is located on the beautiful coastline of South Devon, between the popular sailing resorts of Salcombe and Dartmouth. There are many beautiful beaches within just a short distance and keen walkers can enjoy coastal walks along the south west coast path which runs almost on the doorstep.
The cottage is perfectly located for a delightful holiday by the sea and lives up to its name, providing the perfect retreat where you can relax and unwind. It has been sympathetically renovated to provide modern facilities and accommodation whilst retaining the character of a centuries-old listed building, including original beams and an inglenook fireplace. The cottage also affords seaviews from the master bedroom and private garden.
Situated on the outskirts of the thriving village of Stokenham, Rest Cottage is within walking distance of two good pubs serving food and has an excellent farmshop nearby. Torcross beach is within walking distance and Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe are all just a short drive.
There are plenty of sandy beaches including Gara Rock, Mattiscombe (where you can take a tour around Start Point lighthouse) and Blackpool sands to the East, a beautiful, pine-fringed, safe bay with shop, cafe and water sports. Bantham is also nearby and great for surfers and lessons can be booked at nearby Bigbury-on-Sea, which is worth visiting with its large expanse of sandy beach. From here you can take a ride on the sea tractor which takes you out to Burgh Island with it's famous art-deco hotel.
Alternatively, you can drive to East Portlemouth where you will find more lovely beaches, and can take a ferry across to Salcombe with its interesting shops, restaurants, pubs and sailing. From Dartmouth, take a cruise up the river, visit the Castle, go crabbing on the quayside, or simply sit back and enjoy watching the boats.
The front door leads to a spacious hallway with slate floor and hanging for coats.
A kitchen/diner is well equipped for all your culinary needs. There is a fireplace in the dining area with electric log burning stove.
The large sitting room has a lovely window seat overlooking the garden and an inglenook fireplace with gas stove.
This sitting room leads to a lobby (ideal for storing beach gear) which in turn leads to the cottage's ."secret" - a delightful, bright, summer garden room decorated in a seaside style, with large pine table to seat 6 and double doors leading onto the private terrace with views down to the sea. There's also a small sofa for relaxing on summer days.
The lobby also leads to a basic utility/loo with washing machine.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms. The large master bedroom has a king size bed and another window seat with views down the valley to he sea. The second bedroom is small with two singles, plenty of hanging space and drawers in the fitted wardrobe and views of the countryside.
The bathroom is upstairs too with an electric shower over the bath.
The cottage is approached by its own gravel drive with plenty of space to park. There's a lawn, trees, and a very private terrace area with table and chairs, a barbeque and chiminea. From here you can enjoy a glass of whatever takes your fancy whilst taking in the view down the valley to the sea.
Short breaks are available most of the year but in summer , and other busy periods can only usually be booked as "last - minute" holidays. i.e. within 2 weeks of arrival. Please enquire if you are interested and we will try to accommodate you.
Please note: guests must complete a booking form prior to the holiday. Check in/out times apply. You will need to bring towels.
