City of Kandy is just 28 km away from the house and is famous for The Temple of Tooth and for annual Esala Perahera, the Asia's most colorful pageant that is held in August.

The city of Gampola was made the capital of Sri Lanka (1345-1412 A.D.) by King Buwanekabahu IV and his successor Buwanekabahu V ruled for 29 years. Among the remnants of Gampola era are the most famous temples of Lankathilaka, Gadaladeniya and Embekka Devalaya. The Ambekka Dewalaya possess a large collection of wood carvings. No other temple in Sri Lanka owns such a high quality collection.

Atabage is bordering Kothmale, which was home to King Dutugemunu before he assumed the throne.
