The Surat Thani Province region

Twenty years ago, only a few intrepid backpackers visited the island. Today, Koh Samui is a cosmopolitan melting pot, attracting budget travellers staying for a month or two in simple beachside fan bungalows, to the mega rich, dropping in for a weekend at a luxury resort or villa on the beach.

Koh Samui is unique among Thailand's islands in maintaining a broad appeal for everyone. This helps to give the distinctive relaxed atmosphere that sets it apart. Everyone is welcome.

Koh Samui's busiest and biggest town has sprung up around one of the island's best beaches. As well as offering more accommodation options than elsewhere on the island, Chaweng is also nightlife central with bars and restaurants catering to every taste.

From beachside institutions to sophisticated cocktail bars, Chaweng's nightlife is streets ahead of anywhere else on Samui in terms of choice.

The famous Green Mango strip still forms the axis around which the rest of the town's bars revolve and is packed with (mostly) young revellers every night, alternating between the pubs, dance bars and girly bars. Chaweng's main strip is nearly three kilometers long though, and lots of smaller centers of activity have sprung up along it. McDonalds forms a landmark in the south of town just across the road from Chaweng's single most popular bar, Tropical Murphy's Irish pub.

Getting around
There are several means of transportation during your stay in Koh Samui. There is a service called 'Tuk Tuk' which is basically a fleet of pickup trucks/ motorized rickshaws that drive randomly around the islands 'ring road' and tourist hot spots that you can just flag down and jump in. However, they are not cheap, or too reliable, and only do main road pick-ups and drop-offs.

The main mode of transportation on the island, and most recommended is renting out scooters/motor bikes. If you are a skilled driver, we can assist you in renting out a few during your stay (value cost: $8 - $15/day).

However, if you are more of a car person, we can help you in renting out an appropriate car instead (value cost: $30 - $45/ day). A heads-up in advance will be highly appreciated in order to make necessary arrangements.
