La Grange, is a beautiful 100 sq metre barn conversion, part of 10 Bouteau, which is an 19th century stone house in a hill-top hamlet with vines and plum orchards all around. The property is located between the bastide towns of Monsegur (6km) and Duras (10km), and has a lovely pool and garden which is shared solely with the owners. It is 10 minutes' walk from the hillside village of Dieulivol, which boasts a 12th century church with splendid views, a post office where you can have your freshly-baked bread delivered and a bar.The two-storey barn is decorated to a very high standard with a double-height living room ceiling and mezzanine. It offers 2 ensuite bedrooms, one double and one twin room (that can be converted to a large double if required). The property has a terrace with table and chairs for catching the morning sun with your breakfast. It also has internet access, with a desk and office chair located on the mezzanine, should you need to contact the outside world. The secluded pool is 10 x 5 metres and is in the grounds of the main residence. The pool is shared with the owners and is beautifully situated and screened by an old stone wall. There is English satellite TV and radio should you wish to catch up on sporting events or world news.It is a great place to relax, unwind and appreciate the beauty of the countryside. There are many places of interest to visit in the area and every day there is a local market, within 30 minutes' drive, with farmers selling delicious seasonal produce and local craftsmen selling their wares.Should you want some exercise, running in the beautiful countryside is tranquil and safe. The terrain is great for cycling, but should you prefer somewhere flatter, you can use the cycle track that runs from Sauveterre de Guyenne to Bordeaux. There is a golf course about 20 minutes away. Horse riding is available nearby and an open air pool and tennis courts are located in Monségur, 6 minutes drive away. There are wine, strawberry and tomato festivals in the season, and between mid-June and mid-September, there are weekly night markets to dine al fresco and listen to local music. The beautiful city of Bordeaux is an hour away, and Bergerac is 50 minutes through the vineyards.St Emilion is 35 minutes away and is beautiful.

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

The Aquitaine region of South West France spreads from the Atlantic coast to the border with Lot et Garonne. The Gironde department, around Bordeaux, is home to some of the world;s most celebrated vineyards, such as those in the fairly flat Medoc, west of the river Gironde, and the hilly areas around St Emilion. Agriculture is very important to the region and Aquitaine grows half of France's strawberries and most of the prunes. The tomatoes from Marmande (about 30 mins away) are known all over France. The period between May and October usually has beautiful weather. Temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees during August, but are generally around the 28 degrees region. The Atlantic coast has many interesting towns to visit: Arcachon (1 hr 40 Mins away), Lacanau for pro surfing (1 hr 30 mins) and Biarritz (3hrs) for surfing and the Spanish coast, are all great to visit, but are best avoided in July and August as these are very popular tourist destinations for French holiday makers.

Dieulivol is in the midst of vineyards and orchards and is therefore a good location to explore the wine country.Close to the bastide town of Monségur (6km) and the chateau of Duras (10km) the area is well known for the summer music and night markets where locals and visitors gather for great French country food. The Monségur 24 Hours of Swing takes place around the beginning of July. A great event if you are a jazz enthusiast or if you just like open air music and a great vibe. Duras holds its Fete de la Madeleine around the 14th July with a fair, open air banquet and fireworks spectacular.

It is a great place for running or cycling, although not flat. The main cycleway, from Sauveterre, that leads to Bordeaux gets progressively flatter the nearer the city you get. There is canoeing, flying, gliding, riding, hot air ballooning (mainly in August) all in the area. Details of these

activities are provided to guests that stay at La Grange.
