The village itself has excellent pubs and restaurants as well as tea rooms, shops & a Post Office – you may recognise Goathland as “Aidensfield” in the TV series “Heartbeat”. It's a superb spot from which to explore the whole of the Heritage coastline, being less than 10 miles away from the traditional fishing port of Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and the picturesque seaside village of Sandsend where you'll find a marvellous long stretch of sandy beach.
Take a trip on the North York Moors Steam Railway which stops at Goathland, taking you into the market town of Pickering for the day, or if you want to go a little further on your travels York, Castle Howard and Scarborough are all within an hour's drive. A very popular area with walkers of every ability, you can amble round the village or have a full day walking out over the moors and throughout the whole of the NYM National Park.
